Baseball Drops Road Contest at Oakland City

OAKLAND CITY, Ind.- The Blue Raider baseball team fell 12-4 in a single game match-up against the Mighty Oaks of Oakland City University (Ind.) on Konkler field Tuesday night. 

Tray Price and Chance Stayton led the Blue Raiders at the plate both picking up two hits a-piece. Price picked up a two-run home run, and a single as well as two RBIs. Stayton tallied two singles.

Jack Ballou (0-2) picked up the loss for the Blue Raiders, throwing 3.0 innings, giving up six runs on seven hits, with one strikeout and a single walk.

Oakland City opened up scoring for the game in the bottom of the second inning, racking up six early runs to post a 6-0 lead headed into the third frame.

Lindsey Wilson put up their first and only runs in the top of the fifth with Price connecting on a two-run home run, and Price getting the first hit of the day for the Blue Raider offense cutting the deficit to 6-2. With no outs, Stayton stepped to the plate and singled to right field, followed by a single from Maddox Tarrence to put runners on first and second. After Jackson Steele flew out, Bryce Sidler picked up a single to left field to load the bases. Matthew Schultz added another single, sending his to left field, and picked up two RBIs, scoring Stayton and Tarrence as Lindsey Wilson trailed 6-4 headed into the bottom of the inning.

Oakland City tacked on six more runs and defeated the Blue Raiders 12-4 in nine innings. Lindsey Wilson falls to 4-21 on the season and 1-12 on the road.

The Blue Raider baseball team will be back in action on Friday and Saturday for a Mid-South Conference match-up against at Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) in Henderson, Tennessee. The first pitch will be thrown at 1 pm CST for game one followed by a 4 pm CST start time for game two on Friday and at noon on Saturday.
