Blue Raiders Drop Game One to Lions

HENDERSON, Tenn.- The Lindsey Wilson baseball team fell 20-10 in game one on Five Wells Field to Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) Thursday Night.

Chance Stayton led the Blue Raiders at the plate going 4-of-5 in the batter's box, and tallying three RBIs and three doubles, while also scoring a run. Matthew Schultz and Jackson Steele tacked on a home run apiece, as well as a combined four RBIs.

Glenn Simes picks up the loss pitching 3.0 innings and facing 19 batters. Simes threw 53 pitches, giving up eight runs on seven hits, picking up a strikeout and walk.

Schultz led off the first frame for the Blue Raiders with a solo shot over the left field wall for an early 1-0 advantage. Maddox Tarrence walked the next at-bat, and stole second on a wild pitch as Stayton stepped to the plate. Stayton doubled, scoring Tarrence and extending the lead 2-0. With Stayton on second and Bryce Sidler taking first on a hit by pitch, Steele connected on a three-run home run, pushing the Blue Raider lead to 5-0 headed into the bottom of the inning. Freed-Hardeman answered back with a solo shot to put a run on the board at 5-1. 

The Lions tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the third on a grand-slam from Dalton Bonner, as they ended the inning tallying four runs on three hits. 

Lindsey Wilson answered back in the top of the fourth with a pair of runs. With Tray Price on third, Schultz advanced to first on an error by the pitcher, allowing Price to score and giving the Blue Raiders a 6-5 lead. With two outs, Tarrence was hit by a pitch, which advanced Schultz to second. Stayton picks up his second hit of the game, as Schultz scores an unearned run for Lindsey Wilson and extends the score to 7-5. The Lions tacked on seven runs in the home half of the fourth, taking back the lead, and posting a 12-7 advantage before scoring four more runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 16-7 lead. 

Diego Andino came in to pinch-hit for Braxton Smith, and drew a walk followed by a Schultz walk to put runners on first and second as Stayton steps back up to the plate. Stayton picked up an RBI-double, scoring Andino, to enter the bottom of the frame trailing 16-8. 

As both teams went scoreless in the seventh frame, Lindsey Wilson found themselves with two outs and the bases loaded as Tucker Hagan and Price were walked consecutively, scoring two more Blue Raider runs to cut the lead to 16-10. Freed-Hardeman tacked on four more runs to take the 20-10 victory over Lindsey Wilson in eight innings.

Blue Raider baseball will be back in action tomorrow on Five Wells Field for day-two of the series for a twin-bill against the Lions. The first pitch will be thrown at noon CT, followed by game two at 4 pm CT.
