Blue Raiders Defeat Thomas University 5-3

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.- The Lindsey Wilson baseball team came from behind to take a 5-3 victory over Thomas University (Ga.) at Grizzly Baseball Complex Friday afternoon.

Jackson Steele had the best day at the plate, going two-for-three, with two runs, two hits, two RBIs, and drawing a walk. Bryce Sidler, Chance Stayton, and Tray Price also contributed an RBI a-piece to help the Blue Raiders edge out the Night Hawks.

Glenn Simes picked up today's win, pitching 7.0 innings, giving up two runs on nine hits and picking up six strikeouts along the way. Reed Marcum acquires the save, pitching 2.0 innings allowing one run on three hits, and picking up three strikeouts and two walks.

Thomas University struck first in the top of the second frame on one run and one hit, but left two on base, taking an early 1-0 lead. Lindsey Wilson answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the third. With two runners on base, Stayton connected on a SAC fly to right field, scoring Steele from third after he advanced on a balk.

Stayton got the offense going once again in the fifth after reaching first on an error by the infield and advancing to third. Sidler stepped up to the plate and singled to center field and scored Stayton, giving the Blue Raiders a 2-1 edge headed into the sixth frame.

The Night Hawks started off the sixth inning with runners on the corners and one out before Simes picked up back-to-back outs on a pop fly and groundout, but not before Thomas University was able to tie the game back at 2-2. Braxton Smith singled to left field to lead off the bottom of the frame, followed by a Diego Andino walk to put two on base for Lindsey Wilson. With runners on first and second, Steele picked up a 2-RBI single to left center, scoring Smith and Andino for a 4-2 Blue Raider lead.

In the top of the eighth, Thomas University tacked on another run after Marcum came in as relief for Simes and walked his first two batters faced, but struck out the next two, only giving up a single run on an RBI, cutting the lead to 4-3. Steele singled to right field in the bottom of the inning, and advanced to second on a wild-pitch, moving him into scoring position as Price stepped into the batter's box. Price cashed in on an RBI-single up the middle, scoring Steele, extending the lead to 5-3.

Lindsey Wilson held Thomas University scoreless in the top of the ninth, to pick up the 5-3 victory for their first game in Georgia.
