Blue Raiders Fall to Thomas and Georgia Gwinnett

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.- Blue Raiders fell to Thomas University (Ga.) 7-4, and No. 4 Georgia Gwinnett 20-6 on Saturday at Grizzly Baseball Complex. 

Braxton Smith went two-for-two in game one against Thomas U. with a single and a double, as well as scoring a run for the Blue Raiders. Jackson Steele went two-of-four in game two against Gwinnett, picking up four RBIs and a double. 

Jonathan Phipps (0-3) picked up the loss in game one, pitching 1.2 innings and giving up four runs on four hits with a walk and strikeout. Gannon Herring (0-2) acquired the loss in game two after pitching 1.2 innings and giving up eight runs on four hits, with four walks and a strike out. 

Game One: Thomas University 7, Lindsey Wilson 4

The Night Hawks struck first in the bottom of the first frame taking an early 1-0 lead. Lindsey Wilson answered back in the top of the second tying the game 1-1, when Diego Andino hit a SAC-fly to center, scoring Bryce Sidler. Thomas U. answered back with a trio of runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-1 lead. 

Andres Duran connected on a 2-run home run in the top of the third, scoring Tray Price and bringing the Blue Raiders back within one, headed into the bottom of the frame trailing 4-3. 

Thomas University tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead 7-3. In the top of the fifth frame, Drake Young connected on an RBI-single to center field, scoring Sidler, and cutting the deficit to 7-4. The Blue Raiders fell 7-4 after taking the 5-3 victory in the first match-up the day prior. 

Game Two: Georgia Gwinnett 20, Lindsey Wilson 6

The Grizzlies put 11 runs on six hits in the bottom of the second frame, jumping out to a 11-0 over the Blue Raiders to start the scoring. With two outs in the top of the third, Sidler hit an RBI-single to the shortstop, putting Lindsey Wilson on the board. The two-out rally was not over for the Blue Raiders as Steele connected on a three RBI-double to left field, scoring Young, Sidler, and Duran cutting the deficit to 11-4. 

Gwinnett tacked on eight more runs in the bottom of the third and fourth inning, extending their lead to 19-4. Steele picked up an RBI-single in the top of the fifth frame, scoring Duran. Tucker Hagan reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Sidler, and picking up an RBI to cut the Grizzlies lead to 19-6. 

Lindsey Wilson fell to No. 4 Georgia Gwinnett 20-6 in seven innings. 

The Blue Raiders will be back in action on Tuesday at 2 pm CST in Egnew Park to face the Firehawks of Tennessee Southern.
