COLUMBIA, Ky.- The Lindsey Wilson baseball team fell to the No. 9 Patriots of the Cumberlands (Ky.) 13-2 on Senior Day Saturday at Egnew Park.
Caden Davis led the Blue Raider offense going 2-for-2 with two singles.
Caden Davis and
Matthew Schultz each recorded a pair of hits.
Chance Stayton recorded a hit and drove in a run.
Glenn Simes got the start pitching three innings allowing four runs on four hits, two walks, and a strikeout.
After falling behind 4-0 early and giving up two runs in the first and one in the second and the third to the Patriots,
Caden Davis led off the bottom of the third inning and singled to shortstop bringing Matt Schultz to the plate. Davis stole second not long before Schultz drew the walk from Kailen Hamson. With runners on first and second, Jaiden Keith stepped in the box to pinch hit for
Maddox Tarrence, and successfully laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the Blue Raider runners to second and third.
Chance Stayton connected on a single to left field, scoring Davis and moving Schultz over to third for the first Lindsey Wilson run at 4-1. Stayton made his move to steal second, getting caught in a rundown situation with the pitcher, first baseman, and second baseman, which allowed Schultz to score from third for a 4-2 deficit.
The Patriots put up four more runs in the top of the fifth to extend their lead to 8-2. The Blue Raiders had a chance with runners on second and third in the bottom of the frame with two outs, but were unable to convert, leaving two stranded headed into the top of the sixth. Cumberlands added three more runs in the sixth and two in the seventh for the 13-2 run-rule victory.
Lindsey Wilson and Cumberlands close out the three-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at Noon CT at Egnew Park.
