Blue Raiders Drop Doubleheader to Patriots

COLUMBIA, Ky.- The Blue Raider baseball team dropped both games against No. 9 University of the Cumberlands in Egnew Park 22-2 and 22-8, on Sunday. 

Bryce Sidler and Matt Schultz led the Blue Raiders offense on the day with a pair of hits, with Schultz picking up two RBIs. Tray Price led in RBIs, picking up three off of a triple in the first inning.

Game One: Cumberlands 22, Lindsey Wilson 2
Schultz led off the first inning for the Blue Raiders after the Patriots tallied a 6-0 lead in the first with six runs on six hits. Schultz drew the lead off walk and stole second with Andres Duran at the plate. Duran was hit by a pitch, followed by a Sidler walk to load the bases. Amir Pineiro singled through the left side, scoring Schultz from third for a 6-1 deficit and loading the bases again for Diego Andino. Andino was able to draw another walk from Patriot Knicko Billings to score Duran to cut the lead to 6-2 headed into the top of the second. 

The Blue Raiders had just a single hit in game one. The Cumberlands tallied 24 hits and tacked on 16 unanswered runs after Lindsey Wilson's two-run first inning cut the deficit to 6-2, with the Patriots defeating LWC 22-2. 

Game Two: Cumberlands 22, Lindsey Wilson 8
With one out, Sidler singles down the left line in the bottom of the first to give the Blue Raiders their first hit of the game. Schultz steps to the plate getting hit by a pitch, immediately followed by Chance Stayton drawing a walk to load the bases for Price. Price doubled down the left line for a stand-up double, driving in Sidler, Schultz, and Stayton for an early 3-0 lead headed into the second. 

The Cumberlands answered back in the top of the second with two runs to cut the lead to 3-2. Andino led off the bottom of the frame with a triple, bringing Drake Young to the plate. Young grounded out to shortstop and scored Andino for an RBI, extending the Blue Raider lead to 4-2 headed into the third. 

Patriot, Charlie Muniz, led off the top of the third with a solo shot over the right field wall, chipping the Lindsey Wilson lead down to 4-3, before tacking on two more runs in the inning to lead 5-4. 

Lindsey Wilson trailed 10-4 headed into the bottom of the fifth after the Patriots put up three runs in the fourth and two in the fourth. Davis drew the lead off walk and stole second on a wild pitch. Schultz stepped into the batter's box with Davis on second and singled into center field, scoring Davis and cutting the Patriots lead 10-5. 

The Patriots took a 16-5 lead after knocking in six runs on two hits in the top of the sixth frame. Price led off the bottom of the inning, drawing a walk with Duran coming in to pinch hit for Maddox Tarrence, and singled up the middle to advance Price to third. Andino stepped into the batter's box and reached on a fielder's choice as Duran was out at second, but Price was able to score, to cut the deficit to 16-6 headed into the seventh frame. 

After the Cumberlands tacked on six more runs in the top of the seventh to extend their lead to 22-6, Sidler led off the bottom of the seventh with a double to right center. Schultz connected on a ball down the right field line for a triple, to score Sidler and cut the deficit to 22-7. With Schultz on third, Tucker Hagan entered to pinch hit for Gray Colvin and hit a sac fly to right field, scoring Schultz from third on the tag-up for a 22-8 deficit. 

Lindsey Wilson fell in seven innings 22-8 to end the series with the Patriots, 0-3. 

Blue Raider baseball will be back in action on Tuesday at 2 pm CST in Egnew Park, to face the Bearcats of Brescia University.
