Three-Run Eighth Inning Propels Blue Raiders to Victory Over Brescia

COLUMBIA, Ky.- The Lindsey Wilson baseball team picked up a 9-7 win over Brescia (Ky.) in Egnew Park Tuesday afternoon. 

Bryce Sidler and Drew Gale led the offense picking up two hits a-piece and Gale tacking on three RBIs. Diego Andino had the only Blue Raider home run on the day, sending it over the wall in the seventh inning. Ethan Fain picked up the win, firing three innings with six strikeouts and four walks, allowing no runs on no hits. 

In the top of the first frame Brescia took an early 2-0 lead headed into the bottom of the inning. Maddox Tarrence drew the lead off walk for the Blue Raiders and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Matt Schultz drew a walk as Tarrence stole third on ball four. With Sidler at the plate, Tarrence stole home on a wild pitch while Schultz advanced to second for a 2-1 deficit for LWC. Sidler drew the walk and stole second as Schultz stole third. Chance Stayton drew a walk in his at-bat to load the bases for Andres Duran. Duran connected on a sac fly to center field, scoring Schultz from third to tie the game at 2-2 headed into the second frame. 

Brescia took a 4-2 lead headed into the bottom of the third frame. Sidler led off for the Blue Raiders connecting on a double to center field. Andino flew out to right field advancing Sidler to third. Jackson Steele was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and third for  Gale. Gale doubled to center field, scoring Sidler and Steele to tie the score at 4-4 headed into the fourth. 

Lindsey Wilson held Brescia scoreless in the top of the inning, headed into the bottom tied 4-4. Tarrence led off the inning, loading first after getting hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Schultz grounded out first, advancing Tarrence to third in the process. With Sidler at the plate, Tarrence scored on a wild pitch before Sidler singled through the left side, giving LWC its first lead of the game at 5-4. 

After the Bearcats put up two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to take a 7-5 lead headed into the seventh, Andino answered back with a lead off home run to start off the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit to 7-6. 

The Blue Raiders held Brescia scoreless in the eighth, trailing 7-6 headed into the bottom of the inning. Duran led off the bottom of the inning, reaching first on an error by the Bearcats third baseman, as Tray Price came in to pinch run. Price stole second, followed by Schultz drawing a walk to place runners on first and second. Sidler flew out to center field, but advanced Price to third. With Stayton at the plate, Schultz stole second followed by Stayton drawing the walk to load the bases for Andino. Andino drew a walk to pick up an RBI and score Price from third to the game at 7-7, with Caden Davis drawing a walk the next at bat to score Schultz from third and load the bases once again with an 8-7 advantage. Gale stepped into the batter's box and hit a sac fly into left field to score Stayton, giving the Blue Raiders the 9-7 edge headed into the top of the ninth frame, to snap their six game losing streak. 

Lindsey Wilson baseball will be back in action tomorrow at 2 pm CST in Egnew Park to face the Mighty Oaks of Oakland City (Ind.).
