Blue Raiders Drop Double Header to Bethel

MCKENZIE, Tenn.- The Blue Raider baseball team fell in both games of their day-one double header to Bethel (Tenn.) 5-1 and 17-7 in Wildcat Park, Friday afternoon. 

Drake Young led the Blue Raiders at the plate going 5-for-8 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Bryce Sidler also went 3-for-6 on the day with two RBIs and a single run scored. 

Game One: Bethel-5, Lindsey Wilson-1
Bethel struck first in the bottom of the third after both teams went scoreless through the first two. Lindsey Wilson fell behind 2-0 early before Caden Davis became the first base runner for the Blue Raiders on the day in the top of the fourth. Davis drew a two out walk as Drake Young stepped into the batter's box. Young doubled, allowing Davis to score, cutting the deficit to 2-1. 

Bethel was able to add on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth, defeating the Blue Raiders in game one 5-1, in seven innings.

Game Two: Bethel-17, Lindsey Wilson-7
Lindsey Wilson was held scoreless through the first two frames, with the Wildcats tallying two runs in the bottom of the second inning to lead 2-0. 

The Blue Raiders answered back in the top of the third frame with Tray Price singling. Price advanced to second on a single by Young, followed by a Davis walk, loading the bases for Jackson Steele. Steele reached on a fielders choice with Price being called out at home. With the bases still loaded, and with two outs Sidler connected on a two-RBI single to score Young and Davis from second and third to tie the game at 2-2. 

Bethel added five more runs in the bottom of the third and seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 14-2 lead headed into the top of the sixth with neither team scoring in the fifth. 

Sidler led off the sixth frame with a walk to put a runner on first for Stayton. Stayton was able to reach first on an error by the third baseman, advancing Sidler to second. Diego Andino stepped to the plate and singled, loading the bases for Drew Gale. Gale hit into a 6-4-3 double play, with him and Andino being called out on the play, but scoring Sidler to cut the deficit to 14-3

After holding the Wildcats scoreless in the sixth, Young led off the top of the seventh with a single, and advanced to second after Davis drew a walk. Steele connected on a double and picked up two RBIs, cutting the deficit to 14-5, and holding Bethel scoreless in the bottom of the frame. 

In the top of the eighth, Gale drew a walk as the coaches brought in Braxton Smith to pinch run. Price drew a walk to advance Smith to second. Price and Smith advanced to second and third after a wild pitch to put two runners in scoring position with one out and Young coming to the plate. Young picked up a two-RBI, scoring Price and Smith to cut the Wildcat lead to 14-7 headed into the bottom of the inning. 

Bethel was able to score three runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a 17-7 advantage, defeating the Blue Raiders in eight innings. 

The Blue Raiders will be back in action tomorrow at 1 pm CST on Wildcat Field to close out their Mid-South Conference series with Bethel.
