Blue Raiders Rout Brescia 22-4

OWENSBORO, Ky.- The Blue Raider baseball team defeated Brescia 22-4 in seven innings at Kamuf Park Tuesday night.

Drake Young led Lindsey Wilson at the plate, going 3-for-4, tallying five RBIs. Tucker Hagann went 2-for-4 on the day, drawing two walks and batting in four. Jack Ballou picked up the win on the mound pitching 4.0 innings, allowing no runs on one hit. Ballou faced 16 batters, struck out three, and walked two. 

Lindsey Wilson struck first in the top of the first, as Matt Schultz drew the lead off walk and advanced to third on a single to right field from Andres Duran. With runners on the corners, Bryce Sidler singled to right field, advancing Duran to second and scoring Schultz from third to give the Blue Raiders an early 1-0 lead. Chance Stayton reached on an error by the pitcher to load the bases for Diego Andino. Andino connected on a sac fly to center field, to advance Stayton and Sidler to second and third, scoring Duran for a 2-0 lead. After Hagan lined out to the second baseman, Young singled into left field for two RBIs, scoring Sidler and Stayton for a 4-0 lead headed into the bottom of the frame.

Amir Pineiro drew a lead off walk to start the second, after holding Brescia scoreless through the first frame. Caden Davis came into pinch run for Pineiro, and advanced to second after Tray Price was also  walked. With Schultz at the plate, Davis and Price advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. Schultz drew the third straight walk from the Bearcats bullpen to load the bases for Duran. The Blue Raider base runners all advanced on a passed ball, scoring Davis to extend the lead to 5-0. Duran singled up the middle to score Price and Scultz, growing the lead to 7-0. Sidler was hit by a pitch, advancing Duran to second, with Stayton coming to the plate. Stayton singled into right field and advanced to second on an error by the right fielder, moving Sidler to third, and scoring Duran for a 8-0 lead. Andino reached first on another Bearcat fielding error, moving Stayton to third and scoring Sidler to lead 9-0. Andino stole second, putting runners on second and third for Hagan. Hagan hit a two-RBI single up the middle, to score Stayton and Andino, extending the Blue Raider lead to 11-0 headed into the bottom of the second. 

Both teams were held scoreless through the third before the Blue Raiders struck again in the fourth. Stayton took first on another Bearcat error, as Andino singled up the middle to put runners on first and second. Hagan singled to left field to load the bases for Young with no outs. Young hit a two-RBI single down the left field line, advancing Hagan to second and scoring Stayton and Andino. Price was hit by a pitch to once again load the bases for Lindsey Wilson. Schultz singled through the left side, scoring Hagan, followed by Duran drawing a walk to score Young for a 15-0 advantage. Sidler connected on a single down the left field line, advancing Duran to third, and scoring Schultz and Price to increase the lead to 17-0. Maddox Tarrence entered the batter's box to pinch hit for Stayton and was hit by a pitch, loading the bases for Jaiden Keith to pinch hit for Andino. Keith drew the walk, advancing the base runners and scoring Duran for the Blue Raiders 18th unanswered run. Hagan drew a walk in the next at-bat to score Sidler, growing the lead to 19-0. Young singled through the right side to score Tarrence, giving Lindsey Wilson a 20-0 edge headed into the bottom of the fourth. 

Lindsey Wilson and Brescia were held scoreless through the fifth, with Brescia tallying four runs in the bottom of the sixth frame on a sac fly and three-RBI double to cut the lead to 20-4. 

Jackson Steele and Davis drew back-to-back walks in the top of the seventh to put runners on first and second for Santiago Gonzalez. Gonzalez was out at first after a hard hit grounder to the second baseman, but advanced Davis and Steele to second and third. Tarrence loaded the bases after drawing the third walk of the inning, bringing Keith back to the plate. Keith singled to right field, scoring Steele to improve the lead to 21-0. Hagan drew the fourth walk of the inning, scoring Davis to give the Blue Raiders a 22-4 advantage headed into the bottom of the frame. Lindsey Wilson held the Bearcats scoreless, to win 22-4 in seven innings, picking up their seventh win of the season.

The Blue Raider baseball team will be back in action on Thursday for a doubleheader at 2 pm CST to take on Highway 55 foe, Campbellsville (Ky.) on Hig Baseball Field. Game three of the series is TBD due to weather forecasts.
