Blue Raiders Split Twin Bill with Campbellsville

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.- The Lindsey Wilson baseball team lost to Campbellsville (Ky.) in game one 13-0, and won game two 11-6 at Hig Baseball Field Thursday evening.

Matt Schultz went 5-for-9 on the day with one RBI and two runs scored while Maddox Tarrence went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a home run. Diego Andino tallied three RBIs, going 3-for-8 at the plate. Gannon Herring (1-4) picked up the game two victory, firing 4.0 innings and facing 20 batters. Herring tallie five strikeouts and four walks, while allowing only two runs on three hits. 

Game One: Campbellsville 13, Lindsey Wilson-0

Campbellsville struck first in the top of the first taking an early 2-0 advantage. The Tigers tacked on one run in the fourth, seven in the fifth, and three in the sixth to take a 13-0 lead. Lindsey Wilson had a chance to score in the top of the seventh with Andres Duran on second after a single to right field and advancing on a ground ball, but the Blue Raiders were held scoreless to fall 13-0 in seven innings.

Game Two: Lindsey Wilson 11, Campbellsville 6

After both teams went scoreless through the first two innings, Tarrence got on base with two outs after getting hit by a pitch. Schultz singled to right field, putting Tarrence in scoring position at third, bringing Duran to the plate. Duran singled to the first baseman, scoring Tarrence for a 1-0 lead, and held Campbellsville scoreless to close out the frame.

Chance Stayton led off the top of the fourth with a single down the right-field line. Stayton advanced to second as Tucker Hagan grounded out to the third baseman, bringing Andino to the plate. Andino doubled to right field, scoring Stayton to tally another run, increasing the lead to 2-0. The Tigers got on the board in the bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit in half to 2-1. 

Tarrence drew a lead off walk to begin the fifth and advanced to third on a single to right field from Schultz. Schultz stole second, followed by a Duran walk to load the bases. Santiago Gonzalez entered the lineup to pinch hit for Bryce Sidler, and reached first on an error by the first baseman, Tarrence was called out at home, but Schultz was able to score, to grow the lead to 3-1. With Gonzalez and Duran on first and second, Stayton singled to right field, loading the bases for Hagan. Hagan connected on a sac fly to center field, allowing Duran time to tag up and score on the throw for a 4-1 LWC lead. Andino hit a triple to right field, scoring Gonzalez and Stayton to increase the advantage to 6-1.With Andino on third, Drew Gale reached first on an error by the third baseman, scoring Andino for a 7-1 lead headed into the bottom of the frame. Campbellsville answered back with a run on a fielder's choice RBI, making the score 7-2. 

Lindsey Wilson increased their lead to 8-2 in the sixth on a solo shot over the left center wall from Schultz. The Tigers went scoreless in the bottom of the inning, with both teams going scoreless in the seventh frame. 

In the top of the eighth, Andino drew a two out walk to put a runner on the base pads for the Blue Raiders. Andino stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Drake Young drew a walk the next at-bat and advanced to third on a wild pitch, with Andino scoring for a 9-2 edge. Drew Gale drew a third straight walk as Tray Price came in to pinch run at first. With runners on the corners, Tarrence doubled into right center, scoring Gale and Price, increasing the lead to 11-2. Campbellsville tallied four runs in the bottom of the frame with a solo home run and three RBIs, cutting the lead to 11-6.

Both teams went scoreless in the ninth frame, giving Lindsey Wilson the 11-6 victory over Campbellsville.

The Blue Raider baseball team will be back in action on Saturday at Hig Baseball Field at 3 pm CST, to close out their Mid-South Conference series with Campbellsville, and conclude the regular season.
