Blue Raiders Advance in MSC Tournament

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The Blue Raider baseball team defeated Georgetown (Ky.) 16-3 in Bowling Green Ball Park to advance in the Mid-South Conference tournament. 

Chance Stayton and Amir Pineiro paced the Lindsey Wilson offense on the day tallying four hits apiece, and a combined five RBIs. Stayton and Matt Schultz both tacked on a home run, with Schultz collecting three RBIs. Jacob Jackson picked up the win, firing 6.0 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, with seven walks and two strikeouts in 29 batters faced. 

Schultz led off the top of the first with a single into left field and stole second with Andres Duran at the plate. Duran drew a full count walk to put runners at first and second for Stayton. Stayton hit a double into center field, scoring Schultz for a 1-0, no outs Blue Raider lead. Diego Andino connected on a sac fly to center field, scoring Duran and advancing Stayton to third for a 2-0 advantage. Tucker Hagan stepped into the batter's box and reached first on an error by the shortstop, scoring Stayton to increase the lead to 3-0. Lindsey Wilson held Georgetown scoreless in the bottom of the frame after a rain delay spanning just over two hours to lead 3-0 headed into the second.

Pineiro led off the top of the second with a double into left center, bringing Tray Price into the game to pinch run at second. Maddox Tarrence laid a sac bunt down the third base line to advance Price to third. Schultz drew a walk, putting runners on the corners. Duran grounded out to second base, advancing Schultz to second, and scoring Price to increase the lead to 4-0. On a failed pick-off attempt from the pitcher to second base, Schultz took third. Stayton singled to the shortstop, scoring Schultz to grow the lead to 5-0. Georgetown stranded a runner on base, and remained scoreless through the second. 

To lead off the third, Andino singled to right field, loading first base. Andino stole second with Drake Young at the plate on a muffed throw by the first baseman. Young doubled to left field, scoring Andino from second, growing the Blue Raider lead to 6-0. With Young on second, Pineiro singled through the right side, to drive in Young for a 7-0 advantage to close out the top of the frame.

After a scoreless fourth inning for both teams, Young got the offense rolling again for the Blue Raiders in the top of the fifth with a stand up double into left field, followed by a Pineiro single to center field, scoring Young to extend the lead to 8-0. 

Jackson proved sturdy on the mound for another inning, holding the Tigers scoreless again in the bottom of the fifth and sixth. The Blue Raider offense continued to back-up Jackson on the mound, with Stayton leading off the top of the sixth with a solo shot over the left senter wall, to extend the lead to 9-0. 

Lindsey Wilson was held scoreless in the top of the seventh frame, stranding a base runner. Georgetown put up two runs in the bottom of the frame on a two-RBI single to center field from Jarrett Chapman to cut the Blue Raider lead to 9-2 with no one out. With the bases loaded, Coach Ethan Utley, made a change on the mound bringing in Jack Ballou, as well as putting Price in center field for Duran, moving Stayton to left. Ballou struck out Jose Cazorla for the first out of the inning. Garrett Thurman hit a fly ball into center, with Price getting underneath it to make the catch and firing home to make the double play, and the third out of the inning. 

Jayden Keith came in to pinch hit for Bryce Sidler in the top of the eighth, reaching first on a throwing error from second. Andino singled to right field, moving Keith over to second, bringing Hagan to the plate. Hagan doubled down the left field line, scoring Keith and Andino, increasing the Blue Raider lead to 11-2. Young singled to center field, scoring Hagan for a 12-2 Lindsey Wilson lead. Pineiro singled to left field, advancing Young over to second, as Braxton Smith entered to run for Pineiro. Tarrence reached first on a fielding error by the shortstop, advancing the base runners, with Young scoring on the error for a 13-2 lead. With runners on second and third, Schultz stepped into the batter's box, connecting on a three run home run over the left field wall, to extend the Blue Raider lead to 16-2 headed into the bottom of the eighth. Georgetown put up a single run on one hit, leaving one on base, giving Lindsey Wilson the 16-3 victory.

The Blue Raider baseball team will be back in action tomorrow at 11:00 am CST to take on the top-seeded Cumberlands (Ky.) in Bowling Green Ball Park.
