Blue Raiders Split Double-Header on Day One of Series With Georgetown

GREENSBURG, Ky.- The Blue Raider baseball team split the double header on day one with Georgetown (Ky.), taking the first game 9-6 and dropping game two, 7-4 in American Legion Park, located in Greensburg, Ky. 

In game one, Matt Schultz, Diego Andino, and Chance Stayton all picked up a homerun. Stayton led the team, going 3-of-4 at the plate. Andino, Schultz, Stayton, and Bryce Sidler also contributed RBIs with three, two, two, and one, respectively. Glenn Simes (3-5) picked up the win, pitching 5.0 innings and giving up six runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Reed Marcum picked up his third save off the season, firing 2.0 innings with four strikeouts and three walks. 

Stayton picked up three more hits in five plate appearances in game two, with one RBI. Andino tallied his second home run of the day, while Jackson Steele contributed a homerun and two RBIs. Kyle Lambert (1-4) picked up the loss, pitching 3.0 innings, giving up seven runs on six hits. 

Game One: Lindsey Wilson 9, Georgetown 6
Georgetown led 3-0 early in the first frame thanks to a three-run homerun from Jose Cazorla. Schultz led off the bottom of the inning for Lindsey Wilson, doubling to right center field. Stayton stepped to the plate, doubling to center, scoring Schultz for the first Blue Raider run. Stayton advanced to third on a wild pitch, followed by Sidler getting hit by a wild pitch, putting runners on the corners for Andino. Andino connected on a three-run home run over the center field wall, giving Lindsey Wilson a 4-3 advantage headed into the top of the second. 

The Tigers tacked on three more runs in the top of the second taking back the lead at 6-4. Amir Pineiro led off the bottom of the second, doubling to center, as Cade Davis entered the game as a pinch runner. Schultz stepped to the plate connecting on a two-run homer, tying the score back to 6-6. Maddox Tarrence made his way to first after getting hit by a pitch and stole second with Sidler at the plate. Sidler singled to left field, scoring Tarrence, and regaining a 7-6 lead. 

Lindsey Wilson held Georgetown scoreless in the third and fourth inning. Stayton stepped into the box in the bottom of the fourth, taking the first pitch of his at-bat to deep, center field, extending the Blue Raider lead to 8-6. 

In the bottom of the sixth frame, Stayton singled to the shortstop, bringing in Davis to pinch run. With Sidler at the plate, Davis took second base, Sidler was walked and on the fourth ball, Georgetown's catcher lost sight of the ball, allowing Davis to round third, and take home, extending the score to 9-6. 

Game Two: Georgetown 7, Lindsey Wilson 4

Lindsey Wilson struck first in the bottom of the first, after Kyle Lambert struck out his first two batters, and popped up the third to retire the sign. Stayton doubled to center field, bringing Jackson Steele to the plate. Steele connected on a two-run home run, scoring Stayton and giving Lindsey Wilson an early 2-0 advantage.

After both teams went scoreless through the second inning, Georgetown tallied seven runs in the top of the third inning, with a grand slam and three-run homerun, taking a 7-2 lead headed into the bottom of the third. 

Tucker Hagan came in as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the seventh and boarded first on an error by shortstop. Schultz drew a walk, advancing Hagan to second. Stayton doubled to center field on a line drive, scoring Hagan and cutting the deficit to 7-3. 

Andino led off the bottom of the eighth with a solo shot over the right-center field wall to earn the only Blue Raider run of the inning, cutting the Tigers lead to 7-4 headed into the ninth frame. 

Lindsey Wilson dropped game two, 7-4, in nine innings.
