Medina and Ybarra Swim for Venezuela at Panam Aquatics Championships

COLUMBIA, Ky. – This May, Lindsey Wilson student-athletes Sergio Ybarra and Nathalie Medina represented their home country of Venezuela at the 2025 Panam Aqauatics Championships in Medellin, Colombia.

The pair, who were each named Freshman of the Year at the Mid-South Conference Championships in February, competed in the swimming and open water swimming disciplines, earning five medals.

In swimming, Medina placed second and third, respectively, in the 400 and 200-meter freestyle. She went on to finish fifth in the 10-kilometer as part of the open swimming competition.

Ybarra captured two silver medals in swimming as he touched the wall second in the 800 and 1,500-meter freestyle. His mark of 8:30.94 in the shorter of the two events is a personal best.

Medina and Ybarra also teamed up to swim the second-best time in the mixed 2x1,500-meter relay in open swimming.

With their efforts, the duo have solidified their spots in the 2025 Junior Pan-American Games, August 9-23, in Asuncion, Paraguay. Furthermore, Medina has qualified herself for the World Aquatics Championships, July 11-August 3, in Sinapore.
