Women's Soccer Shuts Outs Union Commonwealth

COLUMBIA,Ky.- The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team secures their first win against Union Commonwealth (Ky.) 5-0 at Ray Wells Field at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

Lindsey Wilson (1-1) outshot the Bulldogs (0-2) 20-3 with a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. Ashiat Naluggwa and Vitória Loiola led the way with their first two goals of the season, while Alexandra Giusti added one of her own to round out the scoring effort.

The Blue Raiders started strong, taking three shots in the first 17 minutes. Their effort was rewarded in the 21st minute when Naluggwa scored on a free kick that curled past the goalkeeper from outside the box.

Lindsey Wilson stayed in control, limiting the Bulldogs and keeping momentum on their side. A corner kick from Amanda Parreiras found Giusti, who scored with a header to make it 2-0. Just four minutes later, Naluggwa added her second goal of the match off an assist from Lara Rocha, giving the Blue Raiders a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Lindsey Wilson kept the pressure on after the break, scoring just two minutes into the second half when Vitoria Loiola, assisted by Leonie Schmid, pushed the lead to 4-0. The Blue Raiders continued to control possession and were rewarded again in the 76th minute as Loiola scored her second goal of the match and her second career goal to make it 5-0.

The Blue Raiders will travel to Decatur, Alabama to take on the fifth-ranked William Carey (Miss.) Saturday, August 30 at 7 p.m.
