Blue Raiders Outlast Grizzlies for 3-1 Victory

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.- The No. 12-ranked Blue Raiders men's soccer team defeated (RV) Georgia Gwinnett 3-1 on the final day of the Labor Day Grizzly Classic at the Grizzly Soccer Complex. 

Juliano Manfro, Michael Rempel, and Denilson Macon all picked up their first goals of the season with Rempel and Manfro tacking on an assist apiece. Zahir Garcia picked up his first goalkeeper win of the season, saving four of the five shots he  faced. 

Lindsey Wilson was held scoreless in the first half, taking just four shots with only one on goal. Garcia tallied four saves of Georgia Gwinnett's five shots that were on goal during the first 45 minutes of action. The Grizzlies struck first in the 16th minute on a goal from Ousmane Fall,

In the 45th minute, Grizzly Gabriel Martins tallied his second yellow card of the match registering a red card, forcing the Grizzlies to finish the match with 10 players on the field. The Blue Raiders went into halftime trailing 1-0. 

The Blue Raiders picked up the equalizer in the 52nd minute on a goal by Macon that was assisted by Manfro. Less than 10 minutes later, LWU took the lead on a goal from a Rempel free kick, giving them a 2-1 advantage in the 60th minute. 

After an offside in the 84th minute that would have given Lindsey Wilson its third goal of the match, Rempel found Manfro in the 85th minute to put the nail in the coffin, giving the Blue Raiders a 3-1 advantage. 

LWU outshot GGC 10-2 in the second half with five shots being on goal, holding the Grizzlies to zero shots on goal to take the 3-1 victory. 

Men's Soccer will be back in action Saturday at 7 PM CT on Ray Wells Field at Walter S. Reuling Stadium to face No. 22 Rio Grande (Ohio).
