Women’s Soccer Opens Mid-South Conference Play With 3-0 Victory Over Georgetown

COLUMBIA, Ky.- The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team shut out Georgetown (Ky.) 3-0 to open Mid-South Conference play Tuesday on Ray Wells Field at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

Lara Rocha led the Blue Raider offense, scoring all three goals in the second half. Ashiat Naluggwa contributed two assists on Rocha's goals. Lindsey Wilson dominated offensively, taking 23 shots compared to Georgetown's (3-3-1, 0-1 MSC) seven, with 15 of those on goal, while the Tigers managed just four shots on target.

In the opening minutes, both teams tested each other's defenses as the Tigers' Bekah Clark fired the first shot in the third minute. Lindsey Wilson's Annabel Fletcher responded with a shot in the sixth minute, but it was saved to keep the match scoreless.

The Blue Raiders (2-3-1, 1-0 MSC) began to generate chances as Efua Asabel and Naluggwa each missed wide right in the 10th and 11th minute of play. Asabel continued to press the attack, taking another shot in the 19th minute for Lindsey Wilson, but was unable to find the back of the net.

It was a high-intensity first half, with the Blue Raiders keeping the Tigers on defense for much of the period and holding an 11-6 shot advantage over Georgetown (Ky.). McKnight nearly converted a buzzer-beater before halftime, but her attempt was saved as time expired. Georgetown (Ky.) (3-3-1) couldn't find any offensive rhythm as this was the second time they have been held scoreless this year.

Lindsey Wilson took the lead in the 58th minute when Lara Rocha, assisted by Naluggwa, struck the ball into the top-left corner past the goalkeeper for a 1-0 advantage. The duo connected again in the 79th minute, with Naluggwa setting up Rocha for her second goal of the night. Rocha completed her hat trick off a penalty kick in the 84th minute, all three goals coming in the second half, giving the Blue Raiders a 3-0 lead.

The Blue Raiders will travel to Spring Arbor, Michigan, to face No.12 Spring Arbor University (Mich.) Saturday, September 20 at 6 p.m. CT.
