Jackson, Tenn. – The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team fell 2-1 to No. 15 Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday at the University School of Jackson.
Offensively, both teams were following their aggressive game plan, taking ten shots each. The Blue Raiders led with six shots on goal while the Eagles had four in the game.
Lindsey Wilson came out strong in the opening minutes, with Ashiat Naluggwa narrowly missing wide right in the fourth minute. Despite several early attempts, the Blue Raiders were unable to capitalize.
Oklahoma Wesleyan took advantage of the first opportunity as Isabelle Simoneau scored the first goal of the game with one minute remaining in the first half. The Eagles went into the half with momentum, as the Blue Raiders were finding a way to regroup going into the second half.
As both teams battled, the Blue Raiders took eight shots in the second half and the Eagles with seven. Lindsey Wilson's Efua Asabel scored on a free kick as Naluggwa crossed the ball into the goal box on a free kick and bounced in front of the keeper to Asabel, who hit it in the bottom corner of the net in the 71st minute.
Just three minutes later, Oklahoma Wesleyan regained the lead as Laura Gieseler slipped one past Demi Serman to make it 2-1. Lindsey Wilson pressed late, with shots from Amanda Parreiras and Anna Zacharides in the closing minutes, but could not find the net.
The Blue Raiders return home at 5 p.m. CT Friday September 12 to Columbia, Kentucky, to face Grace College (Ind.) on Ray Wells Field at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
