Carbon’s 33 Points Lead Lindsey Wilson Past Cumberland (Tenn.) 79-73

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team earned its fourth straight win with a 79-73 victory over Cumberland (Tenn.) on Saturday afternoon at Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raiders (12-4, 2-0 Mid-South Conference) were led by Kenyata Carbon, who set another career high with 33 points for his second straight 30-point game. Carbon added 11 rebounds, four assists, and a steal while shooting 12-of-17 from the field. DJ Gordon scored 15 points off the bench, and Mihail Gavazov chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds.

Lindsey Wilson opened the game strong with a 7-0 run, highlighted by an early three-pointer from Gavazov and a fast-break dunk by Carbon. The Blue Raiders extended their lead to 20-12 midway through the first half after a steal and assist from Julian Cunningham led to another Gavazov three. Gordon and Carbon continued to attack inside, helping LWC take a 47-38 lead into halftime.

Cumberland started the second half on a quick surge, cutting the margin to 49-46 behind a pair of buckets from Triston Conger. The Blue Raiders answered with a 10-4 run capped by a Gordon three-pointer and a Carbon layup to regain control.

The Phoenix continued to battle, trimming the deficit to two at 61-59 with 10 minutes to play. Lindsey Wilson responded once again as Carbon powered inside for back-to-back scores, followed by a three-pointer from Cunningham to make it 71-62. Carbon sealed the win at the free-throw line, sinking four straight in the final seconds to secure the 79-73 victory.

Lindsey Wilson shot 46 percent (27-of-59) from the field and 74 percent (17-of-23) from the line while forcing 16 turnovers. The Blue Raiders also collected 34 rebounds and got 18 points from the bench.

The Blue Raiders are back in action on Thursday, January 15, hosting No. 2 Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) in a Mid-South Conference matchup at 7:30 p.m. CT inside Biggers Sports Center.
