COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end with a 75-60 loss to No. 2 Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) on Wednesday night inside Biggers Sports Center.
The Blue Raiders (12-5, 2-1 Mid-South Conference) fell behind early as the visiting Lions (18-1, 3-0 MSC) opened the game on a 16-0 run and never looked back.
Lindsey Wilson missed its first 10 shots before a three-pointer from
DJ Gordon at the 12:58 mark finally got the Blue Raiders on the board.
Mihail Gavazov added a layup and a three-pointer later in the half, helping trim the deficit to 32-21 at the break after Freed-Hardeman controlled much of the early action.
The Blue Raiders found momentum after halftime, using a strong stretch from Gordon and Gavazov to close the gap. A Gordon three-pointer with just over 15 minutes left made it 37-32, but the Lions quickly answered. Freed-Hardeman went on a 23-7 run over the next seven minutes to push the lead to 60-39 and take control for good.
Phil Horton led the Lions with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Lane Lauderbaugh added 15 points and five rebounds off the bench.
Gavazov led Lindsey Wilson with 13 points and 15 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season. Gordon added 13 points on 3-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc, and
Latrell Kyles scored 10 points off the bench.
Lindsey Wilson shot 33 percent from the field and 87 percent from the free-throw line while outrebounding Freed-Hardeman 36-34. The Lions finished 48 percent from the floor and turned 21 Blue Raider turnovers into 20 points.
The Blue Raiders return to action on Saturday, January 17, when they host Bethel (Tenn.) in a Mid-South Conference matchup at 3 p.m. CT inside Biggers Sports Center.
