CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team opened Mid-South Conference play with a thrilling 76-74 road win over Campbellsville (Ky.) on Thursday night in the Battle of Highway 55.
Three Blue Raiders scored in double figures, led by
Kenyata Carbon's career-high 32 points, including the game-winning buzzer-beater.
Latrell Kyles added 12 points and six rebounds off the bench, while
Julian Cunningham finished with 10 points, four assists, and three steals. The win moves Lindsey Wilson to (11-4, 1-0 Mid-South Conference), while Campbellsville drops to (14-3, 0-1 MSC).
The opening half was tightly contested with five lead changes.
Julian Cunningham hit an early three-pointer to tie the game at 3-3, and Carbon powered the offense with several drives inside. Lindsey Wilson briefly led midway through the period before the Tigers closed the half strong, taking a 39-34 lead into the locker room behind a hot shooting stretch from the perimeter. Carbon scored 14 of his 32 points in the first 20 minutes.
In the second half, the Blue Raiders fell behind by as many as nine before mounting a comeback. A three-pointer by
Mihail Gavazov sparked a 16-7 run that included key baskets from
Esteban Oliveras and
DJ Gordon. Kyles helped fuel the surge with timely scoring and strong rebounding, while Carbon continued to attack inside to reclaim the lead.
Campbellsville tied the game at 74 with seven seconds left before Carbon took the inbounds pass, drove the length of the floor, and finished at the rim as time expired to deliver the win.
Lindsey Wilson shot 50 percent (30-of-60) from the field and 40 percent (8-of-20) from beyond the arc. The Blue Raiders' bench contributed 25 points, and the defense forced 15 turnovers while holding the Tigers to 35 percent shooting in the second half.
Lindsey Wilson returns home on Saturday to host Cumberland (Tenn.) at 3 p.m. CT inside Biggers Sports Center.
