Men's Wrestling Goes 3-1 at Valley Duals

MARSHALL, Mo. — The No. 22-ranked  Lindsey men's wrestling team went 3-1 at the Valley Duals on Friday at the Burns Athletic Complex.

The Blue Raiders defeated No. 14 Marian (Ind.) 24-20, (RV) Saint Ambrose (Iowa) 32-16, (RV) Avila (Mo.) 33-12, and fell to No. 20 Saint Mary (Kan.) 25-24.


Lindsey Wilson 24 Marian 20
Marian opened the dual with an 8-2 decision at 125 pounds. Alex Tabor was able to even the scoring at 3-3 by defeating Landon Bertsch in the first sudden victory period 8–5. Marian then retook the lead 9-3 with a pin at 141 pounds. A Marian forfeit at 149 pounds tied the dual again at 9-9.  The Knights retook the lead 12-9 with a 4-2 decision in the 157-pound bout.  
Jaiden Moore pinned Braden Getz (No. 18 at 165 pounds)  when he was able to secure a pin in the final minute of the match, making the score 15-12 LWU. Marian tied the dual with a 7-2 decision at 174 pounds.

Cory Cannan (No. 12 at 184) gave Lindsey Wilson a 19-15 lead with a 10-1 major decision over Noah Hollendonner. Marian took a 20-19 lead with one weight class remaining after a 20-4 tech fall at 197 pounds. Miguel Perez (No. 21 at 285) gave the Blue Raiders the win with a pin in 1:14 over Eldrich Flores.

Lindsey Wilson 32 Saint Ambrose 16

Colin Noel opened the dual with a 15-0 tech fall over Anthony Trendle. The Blue Raiders then led 11-0 after a Saint Ambrose forfeit at 133 pounds.  The Bees then rattled off three-straight wins at 141, 149, and 157 to take a 13-11 lead. Emmanuel Celestine (No. 22 at 157) put Lindsey Wilson back in front with a second-period pin of Jean-luc Guerra at 165 pounds. The Bees won 174 by a 12-9 decision, making the score 17-16. Cannan, Standford Thompson, and Jaylin Bien-Aaime all won their matches via tech fall, helping the Blue Raiders finish the dual scoring 15 unanswered points to bring the final score to 32-16. 

Lindsey Wilson 33 Avila 12
Jorge Bravo defeated  Raul Romero 8-2 at 125 pounds to open the dual. Tabor gave Lindsey Wilson a 7-0 lead with a 15-3 major decision over Aiden Pina. The Eagles were able to get on the board in the 141-pound bout with an 8-1 decision to make it 7-3. Lindsey Wilson increased its lead to 13-3 after Avila was disqualified at 149 pounds. Celestine defeated Kristjan Marshall 4-2, pushing the Blue Raider lead to 16-3. 

Moore pinned Bobby Thomas at 174 pounds before Avila picked up a 10-6 decision at 174.  Cannan moved 3-0 on the day after pinning Caleb Sharp in the first minute of the second period at 184 pounds. Avila recorded a pin at 197 pounds while Zackery Chatman won by injury default to close out the dual.


Lindsey Wilson 24 Saint Mary 25
Lindsey Wilson and Saint Mary ended the dual tied at 24. Saint Mary was awarded an additional point after having the third tiebreaker edge of total match points from decisions, major decisions and, tech falls 38-35 over the Blue Raiders.

The Blue Raiders opened the dual with a 9-0 lead after a pin from Bravo, and a 12-9 decision from Tabor over Roman De La Cruz (No. 9 at 133).   Saint Mary recorded a decision at 141 pounds and pins at 149 and 157 to take a 15-9 lead. Moore cut the Blue Raider deficit in half with a 15-11 decision over Graham Klipper at 165 pounds.

Saint Mary increased its lead back to six with a decision victory at 174 pounds. Cory Cannan finished 4-0 on the day when he pinned Orinn Hubbard in the final minute of the second period, tying the match at 18. Saint Mary took a 24-18 lead with a pin at 197. Tied the dual with a third-period pin of Devon Lolar.

The Blue Raiders are back in action for a Mid-South Conference dual on Friday, January 16 at Georgetown (Ky.) at 6 p.m. CT.
