COLUMBIA, Ky. — The 13th-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team host Georgetown (Ky.) for a Mid-South Conference quarterfinals matchup at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
A three-way tie for the MSC regular-season crown forced a goal-differential tiebreaker to determine postseason seeding. Campbellsville (Ky.) earned the overall top seed and the first-round bye, while Cumberlands (Ky.) got the two-seed and Lindsey Wilson claimed the third-seed.
The Blue Raiders enter postseason play riding a five-match winning streak dating back to Oct. 2. They closed the regular season with a 3-1 road victory at Georgia Gwinnett, in that contest
Ona Monserrat Baca secured a first half brace to help her jump out to a 2-0 lead. Following a late goal by the Grizzlies,
Mercy Kinuthia scored an insurance goal to secure the triumph.
The win streak also includes a 3-1 comeback victory at postseason opponent Georgetown on Oct. 17, the same win that clinched the Blue Raiders a share of the MSC regular-season conference title. Lindsey Wilson fell behind 1-0 early after Laura Beumala scored off assists from Sophie Paul and Morgan Imhoff. The Blue Raiders responded with three unanswered scores by
Eva Cova,
Norka Fergusson and
Ashiat Naluggwa to prevail 3-1.
Monserrat Baca paces Lindsey Wilson's offense with 10 goals and Naluggwa trails slightly with nine, but leads the team in assists with eight. Goalkeeper
Demi Serman anchors the Blue Raiders' defense with 38 saves and is limiting opponents to less than a score a game, with a 0.94 goals against average.
Lindsey Wilson holds a perfect 23-0 all-time home record against the Tigers.
The winner of Wednesday's match will advance to face either No. 2 seed Cumberlands or No. 7 seed Freed-Hardeman in the semifinals. The semifinals will take place Nov. 4-6, followed by the championship match on Nov. 10. All tournament contests will be hosted by the higher seed. The tournament champion earns the conference's automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament in late November.
