Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Tirnity Christian on Thursday

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson Blue Raider baseball team split a doubleheaderagainst Trinity Christian (Ill.) Thursday at Egnew Park. 

The Blue Raiders defeated the Trolls 12-4 in game one, followed by the Trolls winning 4-2 in extra innings. 

Game One: Lindsey Wilson 12 Trinity Christian 4

Cassian Bartholomew got the start in game one. Bartholomew went four innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out two and walking three. Bartholomew earned his first victory as a member of the Blue Raiders. Bryce Sidler and Keith Stewart led the Blue Raiders with three hits each. Sidler had five RBIs, and Stewart had three RBIs. Andres Duran also recorded two hits in game one. 

The Trolls got on the scoreboard first in the first inning when Taiki Kondo drove in Caden Quigg. The Blue Raiders responded in the bottom of the first inning when Duran hit a solo home run. Stewart singled to left field and stole second base to move into scoring position. Sidler hit an RBI double to left field, scoring Stewart, making the game 2-1. Amir Pineiro was hit by the pitch and moved to second on Drake Young's groundout. Orion Hahm-Taklander drove in Sidler and pinch runner Zane Gist with a two-out RBI single to increase the lead to 4-1. 

Caden Davis led off the bottom of the second inning with a double to right field. Stewart came up to bat with two outs and Davis on third. Stewart connected for a two-run home run, his first of the season, giving the Blue Raiders a 6-1 lead. 

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Blue Raiders added three additional runs. After two quick outs, Duran singled, and Stewart was hit by a pitch. Sidler crushed a three-run home run, his first of the season, extending the LWU lead to 9-1. 

The Trolls scored a run off pitcher Kyle Lambert in the top of the fifth inning via a sacrifice fly by Josh Pilgrim, scoring Shane Jones. In the top of the sixth inning, Hector Mendoza got an RBI hit by pitch with the bases loaded to make the score 9-3. 

LWU added three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Stewart, Young, and Sidler each drove in a run to make the game 12-3. Juan Azar struck out two in his lone inning of relief, giving up one run, before recording the final out to secure the Blue Raiders' second win of the season. 

Game Two: Trinity Christian 4 Lindsey Wilson 2

Jack Ballou was the game two starter for Lindsey Wilson. Ballou went three innings, allowing two runs on two hits, striking out three, and walking one. Sam Raper pitched four scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out two. Duran was productive in game two as well, recording three hits, including a double. Diego Andino recorded two doubles, including an RBI in the bottom of the sixth inning. 

After two scoreless innings, the Trolls opened the scoring in the top of the third inning. Benson Mayberry scored on an error by Andino, and Kondo drove in Shane Jones with a two-out RBI single, giving Trinity Christian a 2-0 lead. 

In the bottom of the third inning, Duran led off with a single, but was erased by a Sidler double play. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Andino had a two-out double to center field, but Davis grounded out to second base to end the inning. 

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Lindsey Wilson broke through, scoring two runs to tie the game. Young reached on an error by the pitcher, Drew Wanicki. Vincent Sizemore was hit by the pitch, bringing Andino up to bat. Andino doubled to right field, driving in Young. Davis drove in Gist with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at two.

Neither team scored in the seventh inning, forcing the game to go to extra innings. In the top of the eighth inning, Seth Galloway allowed two runs in his lone inning of work for LWU. Kondo, Ty Chaney, and Mendoza each recorded singles, loading the bases. Zach Hesse drove in Kondo with an RBI single to make the game 3-2. Josh Pilgrim drove in another run with an RBI groundout to first base. Galloway stranded two in scoring position, striking out back-to-back hitters looking. The Blue Raiders went down on four pitches in the bottom half of the eighth.
