Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Pikeville

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team lost to Pikeville (Ky.) in both games of the doubleheader (6-2, 7-4) on Tuesday afternoon at Egnew Park.

Game One: Lindsey Wilson 2 – Pikeville 6 (Final/8 Innings)
Blue Raider starting pitcher Jack Ballou went five innings, throwing 94 pitches, allowing two runs on six hits, and striking out four batters. The Blue Raiders scored two runs on three hits, while UPike scored six runs on eight hits. Four of those six runs came during the lone extra inning of the game. Noah Brooks led the way for the Bears, with three hits, a run scored, and two runs driven in. Joe Gagnon drove in three runs on one hit. For the Blue Raiders, Keith Stewart was the lone bright spot offensively. Stewart had one hit and two walks. 

The Bears struck first in the top of the first and added a run in the third to take a 2-0 lead. Lindsey Wilson recorded its first hit of the game in the fourth inning on a Bryce Sidler single. The Blue Raiders tied the game in the sixth on an RBI single from Andres Duran and a sacrifice fly from Sidler. Pikeville added four runs in the top of the eighth to take the 6-2 advantage.

Game Two: Lindsey Wilson 4 –Pikeville  7
Lindsey Wilson's game two starting pitcher, Cassian Bartholomew, went 5 ? innings, throwing 91 pitches, allowing four runs on four hits, while walking three and striking out four. Pikeville's starter, Reed Sutton, went four innings, throwing 69 pitches, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits, while walking two and striking out six. Caden Davis led the Blue Raiders with two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI. Davis also had his first home run of the season when he led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo shot to left field. 

The Bears tied the game at the top of the second inning on an RBI-groundout. Zane Gist stole third and advanced home on an error, giving Lindsey Wilson a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second. Brooks drove in a pair in the third to give Pikeville a 3-2 edge. The Blue Raiders regained the lead, scoring two runs on an error in the bottom of the fifth. Pikeville tied the game in the sixth and added three runs in the seventh, capped by a two-run home run from Brooks. 

Lindsey Wilson will welcome Goshen College (Ind.) for a six-game series starting Saturday with a doubleheader at Egnew Park starting at 12:00 p.m. CT.
