Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Goshen

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team swept Saturday's doubleheader against Goshen College (Ind.) at Egnew Park. 

The Blue Raiders defeated the Maple Leafs 10-3 in game one and 8-4 in game two. 

Game One: Lindsey Wilson 10 Goshen 3

Lindsey Wilson starting pitcher Easton Talley threw six strong innings for the Blue Raiders. Talley threw 100 pitches, allowing three hits, one earned run, striking out eight, and walking two batters. Caden Davis led LWU with three hits and three runs scored.  Talley earned his first collegiate win and now has a record of 1-1. 

Lindsey Wilson struck first with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Blue Raiders scored via a Drake Young sacrifice fly, an Isaac Samano double, and a Ty Croghan single. Goshen scored three runs in the top of the third inning to tie the game; only one of those three runs was charged as an earned run for Talley. The Blue Raiders scored another run in the bottom of the third inning, courtesy of an RBI-double from Bryce Sidler. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Blue Raiders scored four runs to increase their lead to 8-3. Andres Duran drove in Davis with an RBI single. Keith Stewart doubled to right field to put two runners in scoring position. Orion Hahm-Taklender drove in Duran with an RBI single. Vincent Sizemore hit a sacrifice fly that scored Stewart. Hahm-Taklender crossed the plate via a wild pitch. In his last inning of work, Talley retired the side in order, striking out the last batter he faced. Lindsey Wilson added two additional runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jacob Jackson threw a scoreless seventh inning to close game one. 

Game Two: Lindsey Wilson 8  Goshen 4

Blue Raiders starting pitcher Sam Raper had his start cut short due to a 54-minute rain delay. Raper threw 49 pitches, allowing two runs on three hits, walking two batters, and striking out two in his two innings of work. Reliever Brenden Bratcher threw two scoreless innings and earned his first win of the season. Bratcher threw 43 pitches while allowing two hits. Davis again led the team with two hits, while Duran and Amir Piñeiro each had two RBIs. Troy Griffin led Goshen with three hits and three RBIs. 

The Maple Leafs struck first at the top of the second inning with a two-run RBI single. In the bottom of the third inning with the bases loaded, Sidler drew a walk, bringing in Croghan. Lindsey Wilson scored again in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Blue Raiders scored six runs in the inning, all with two outs. The first two hitters in the inning were retired, followed by Samano's walk. Croghan singled, advancing Samano to third base. Davis had an RBI single to right field, followed by Duran doubling to left center to bring in two more runs. Stewart singled, advancing Duran to third base. Sidler reached on a throwing error by the third baseman, scoring Duran from third and advancing Stewart to third base, while Sidler advanced to second base. Piñeiro's clutch two-run single made the game 7-2. Seven straight Blue Raiders reached base. Goshen scored a run off of Colyer White in the top of the fifth inning after a bases-loaded walk. Lindsey Wilson added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Jaxon Truman drew a bases-loaded walk. Juan Azar entered the game in the seventh inning. Azar recorded two outs on 21 pitches, allowing one run on one hit, walking two, and striking out one. Levi Wade recorded the final out of the ball game, striking out Tommy O'Connor.
