Baseball Defeats Goshen 10-8 on Sunday

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team won its third straight game against Goshen (Ind.) 10-8 on Sunday at Egnew Park.

Lindsey Wilson starting pitcher, Jack Ballou (2-0), earned his second win of the season. Ballou went five innings, throwing 105 pitches, allowing three hits, walking four batters, and striking out nine. Ballou allowed six runs with only one earned run. Goshen's starting pitcher, Logan Wilson (0-3), received his third loss of the season. 

Andres Duran led the Blue Raiders with three hits and two RBIs, including a solo home run in the eighth inning. Isaac Samano also had a multi-hit game, including a solo home run to left-center field. Caden Davis continues to be a productive bat for the Blue Raiders lineup, collecting two hits, two RBIs, and scoring two runs. 

Lindsey Wilson scored two in the first inning when Vincent Sizemore was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded, and Orion Hahm-Taklander drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Goshen's Jackson Whittington drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring AJ Carrasquillo. The Blue Raiders tallied two more runs in the bottom half of the second. Davis drove in Samano on an RBI single, followed by Duran driving in Davis on an RBI single, making it 4-1. 

Goshen cut the deficit to 4-2 when Whittington drove in Carrasquillo on an RBI groundout. In each of his first four innings, Ballou recorded two strikeouts. In the bottom half of the fourth inning, the Blue Raiders scored two more runs, making the score 6-2. Davis drove in Ty Croghan with an RBI single, and Keith Stewart recorded an RBI fielder's choice scoring Davis. Goshen tied the game in the top of the fifth inning, scoring four runs. Carrasquillo drove in Troy Griffin on a sacrifice fly, and Chase Smith hit a three-run home run, his first of the season.

The Blue Raiders regained the lead in the bottom half when Zane Gist, pinch-running for Vincent Sizemore, scored on a wild pitch and Adam Walters drove in Orion Hahm-Taklander with an RBI groundout. Lindsey Wilson added two runs in the eighth inning courtesy of solo home runs by Duran and Samano. The Maple Leafs scored two runs in the ninth and had the tying run at second base. Seth Galloway took over for Kyle Lambert with two outs in the ninth, striking out Nick Pinedo to earn his first save of the season. 

Lindsey Wilson and Goshen close out the series on Monday with a single nine-inning game beginning at 1 p.m. CT at Egnew Park.
