BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team fell 85-76 to Campbellsville (Ky.) on Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament at Bowling Green Arena.
The Blue Raiders (18-11) shot 37.9 percent from the field and 86.7 percent from the free-throw line, while the Tigers (19-10) connected on 46.4 percent of their shots, including eight three-pointers. Campbellsville also held a narrow 35-34 advantage on the boards and outscored Lindsey Wilson 34-24 in the paint.
Kenyata Carbon led the Blue Raiders with 25 points, going 14-of-15 from the free-throw line while adding 11 rebounds and five assists for a double-double performance. Mihail Gavazov followed with 14 points and five rebounds, and Olson Nicholson added 10 points. Julian Cunningham scored eight points on perfect shooting from beyond the arc, while Esteban Oliveras chipped in eight points off the bench.
The first half saw both teams trading baskets early. Campbellsville opened with inside scoring from Marcellus Vail, but Lindsey Wilson quickly answered with layups by Mihail Gavazov and Victory Naboya. Carbon connected on a mid-range jumper to give the Blue Raiders a brief lead before the Tigers responded with a 7-0 run fueled by Parker Jones and Vail.
The Blue Raiders continued to battle behind Carbon's playmaking and Gavazov's post presence, cutting the deficit to 15-10 midway through the half. However, Campbellsville's Dalton Kramer caught fire, scoring multiple baskets in the paint and later knocking down back-to-back threes to extend the lead.
Defensive energy from Carbon, who recorded a block and a steal, helped keep Lindsey Wilson within reach. DJ Gordon and Oliveras provided key minutes off the bench, with Oliveras sinking a three-pointer and converting a four-point play to make it 25-23. The Tigers continued to answer behind Kramer and Vail, who combined to push the margin to 39-35 in the final minute. Carbon added a late three-pointer to close the gap, but Kramer hit a deep three at the buzzer to send Campbellsville into halftime ahead 44-35.
Lindsey Wilson came out strong after the break as Naboya and Gavazov scored early to trim the deficit. Campbellsville continued to attack inside, but Carbon's free throws kept the Blue Raiders within single digits.
A surge midway through the half saw Lindsey Wilson rally back. Cunningham drilled a three, Nicholson followed with a layup, and Gavazov added back-to-back baskets as the Blue Raiders stormed ahead 56-53 their first lead since the early minutes. Gavazov then buried another three to make it 59-58 before the Tigers regained control.
Kramer and Vail led Campbellsville's response, combining for a 15-4 run that put the Tigers up by double digits. Epps added a key three-point play, and Kramer stayed perfect from the line to stretch the lead to 73-60 with just over four minutes left.
Despite late buckets from Cunningham and Nicholson, Campbellsville's accuracy from the free-throw line closed the game. The Tigers went 25-of-30 from the stripe overall and made their final six free throws to secure the 85-76 victory.
The Blue Raiders will now wait and see if they earn an at-large bid into the NAIA National Tournament.
