Men’s Basketball Gets Past Carolina 82-77 on Saturday

COLUMBIA, Ky. -  The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team defeated Carolina (N.C.) 82-77 on Saturday at Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raiders (17-7) shot 57.9 percent from the field and were 40.9 percent from three. Carolina (6-17)  held a 41-28 edge in rebounds and an 18-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Kenyata Carbon led Lindsey Wilson with 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting, connecting on all three of his free throws. Carbon also tied for the game high in assists with seven. Victory Naboya added 13 points with eight rebounds and three blocks. DJ Gordon scored 13 points while Olson Nicholson and Mihail Gavazov added 11 apiece.

Carolina opened the game scoring eight of the first 11 points with six from Tristan Kuska. Lindsey Wilson answered with a quick 8-0 run in 1:18 to take an 11-8 lead with 14:42 remaining in the first half. The Bruins responded with a 12-3 run of their own, taking a 20-14 lead with 10:14 to play in the half. Back-to-back layups by Gavazov cut the Lindsey Wilson deficit to 20-18 with 9:40 remaining. Carolina led 28-24 before the Blue Raiders scored nine of the next 11 points to take a 33-30 lead. The Bruins scored five of the final eight points of the half to lead 39-38.

Lindsey Wilson began the second half on a 9-2 run, taking a 47-41 lead with 16:38 to play. The two teams went back-and-forth as the Blue Raider lead never got to more than six until 8:19 to play when Lindsey Wilson took a 66-59 lead. The Bruins then scored six of the next nine points, making it 69-65 with 5:08. Lindsey Wilson went on a 10-4 run, increasing its lead to 79-69 with 1:02 left. The Bruins did not go away quietly, scoring six of the next seven points to trim the Lindsey Wilson lead to 80-75 with 13 seconds to play. Latrell Kyles put the game away with a pair of free throws. Carolina scored a layup in the closing seconds making it 82-77.

The Blue Raiders are back in action on Thursday with a road matchup at No. 2 Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) in Henderson, Tennessee, at 7:30 p.m. CT.
