Baseball Falls to Indiana Columbus 5-3 on Sunday

RUSSELL SPRINGS, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team dropped the series finale to Indiana Columbus 5-3 on Sunday at David Rexroat Field.

Keith Stewart drove in a pair of runs for Lindsey Wilson (1-1) while Blaine Bradford drove in one. Freshman Easton Talley got the start, throwing  3-?  innings, giving up no runs while allowing three hits, five walks, and a pair of strikeouts.

Indiana Columbus starter Brayden Furnish threw seven innings, allowing one run on three hits and seven strikeouts. Ty Nicholson led the Crimson Pride offense with two hits and a pair of RBIs.

The Blue Raiders got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning. Bradford singled to drive in Drake Young, who had led off the inning with a single. This gave Lindsey Wilson the lead 1-0.

Jacob Jackson took over for Talley in the fourth inning with the bases loaded and two outs. Jackson was able to get Cyrus Robinson to ground out to second baseman Diego Andino to end the inning.

IU Columbus would take the lead in the fifth inning, scoring three runs. Samuel Raper came in to replace Jackson with the bases loaded and no outs, and the Crimson Pride up 2-1. Raper retired Nicholson on a sac fly, which increased the Pride's lead to 3-1. Raper then retired Wyatt Sutton on a flyout, followed by a strikeout of Grayson Roll.

The Pride increased their lead in the top of the eighth inning after Nicholson hit a line drive double that scored Cortez Jenkins, making the score 4-1.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, LWU worked the bases loaded after a hit by pitch and two walks. With two outs, Stewart hit a double into right-center field scoring two. The tying run was thrown out at the plate, making it 4-3 heading into the ninth.

IU Columbus added an insurance run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Sutton. Andres Duran led off the bottom half of the inning, getting hit by a pitch. Following back-to-back strikeouts, Young drew a walk. The Crimson Pride got the next Blue Raider batter to ground out, ending the game.
