Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Pikeville

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team split its doubleheader Tuesday against Pikeville (Ky.) at Johnnie Lemaster Field. 

The Blue Raiders lost the opener 6-4, before winning game two by a score of 10-7. The Blue Raiders move to 8-13, while the Bears move to 12-7 on the season. 

Game One: Lindsey Wilson 3, Pikeville 4
Blue Raider starting pitcher Seth Galloway, went a season-high 4.1 innings pitched, allowing three earned runs on eight hits, while walking three and inducing eight fly ball outs. Galloway was given the loss, moving his record to 0-2. Pikeville starting pitcher Reed Sutton(1-0), pitched exceptionally. Sutton threw six innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits, walking one, striking out three, and earning his first victory of the season. Isaac Samano and Keith Stewart led the Blue Raiders. Samano went 1-3 with two RBIs, while Stewart went 1-3 with a double and an RBI. UPike was led by Noah Brooks and Francis Subero. Brooks went 1-2 including a home run, while Subero went 2-3 with two doubles and an RBI. 

Subero opened the scoring for Pikeville in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI double that scored Riley Paulino. Samano drove in Ty Croghan and Diego Andino with an RBI single in the top of the second inning to make the score 2-1. However, in the bottom half of the second, Easton Mould hit a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the third, Brooks hit a solo home run, making it 3-2 Bears. Later in the inning, Mould hit an RBI single to make the score 4-2. The Blue Raiders scored in the top of the seventh via a Stewart double, but ultimately fell short of the comeback. 

Game Two: Lindsey Wilson 10, Pikeville 7
The Blue Raiders' starting pitcher for game two was Brenden Bratcher. Bratcher earned his second win of the season, moving his record to 2-1 on the year. Bratcher pitched 4.1 innings, allowing seven runs on ten hits, walking two, and striking out two. Pikeville's Tyler Trim was given the loss, moving his record to 0-1 on the season. Lindsey Wilson was led in game two by Orion Hahm-Taklander and Andres Duran. Hahm-Taklander went 3-4, including a double, two runs scored, and two RBIs. Duran went 2-3 with a double, one run scored, and two RBIs. Melton again led the Bears, tallying three hits, one run scored, and one RBI. 

Caden Davis got Lindsey Wilson on the board with a sacrifice flyout to right field, scoring Drake Young giving the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead. Later in the second, Duran drove in Croghan and Andino on an RBI double, increasing the lead to three. The Bears took a 7-3 lead in the bottom of the third, highlighted by a Garren Gledhill two-RBI double. Down 7-3 going into the top of the fourth inning, Lindsey Wilson punched back with five runs of its own to take the lead 8-7. Hahm-Taklander drove in Croghan with an RBI single, and Stewart followed with an RBI single of his own, scoring Davis. Bryce Sidler drew a bases-loaded walk. Young followed with a sacrifice fly, and Santiago Gonzalez drove in Stewart with an RBI single. In the top of the fifth inning, Lindsey Wilson added two more runs courtesy of Hahm-Taklander's RBI double and Stewart's sacrifice fly. Colyer White pitched 2.1 scoreless innings in relief for the Blue Raiders, while Gannon Herring came in to get the final out and record his first save of the season, securing a Blue Raider victory.


The Blue Raiders begin Mid-South Conference play with a three-game home series against Campbellsville (Ky.) at Egnew Park. Game one is set for Friday at 3:00 p.m. CT, with a doubleheader Saturday starting at 12:00 p.m. CT.
