Williamsburg, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team defeated the No. 6-ranked Cumberlands (Ky.) Patriots by a score of 3-2 on Thursday afternoon at Terry Stigall Field. 

The Blue Raiders got their second top-10 victory of the season, improving to 13-16 on the season and 4-3 in Mid-South Conference play. The Patriots fall to 23-6 overall, and 6-1 in the MSC. 


Lindsey Wilson starting pitcher, Jack Ballou, pitched 4.1 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, walking three, and striking out three. Reliever Kyle Lambert threw 4.2 hitless innings to blank the Patriots and earn the victory. Lambert moves to 2-0 on the season. Cumberlands' starting pitcher, Wesley Culley, went 5.0 innings, allowing three runs on nine hits, walking one, and striking out five. Culley drops to 5-1 on the season after receiving the loss. Isaac Samano and Caden Davis led the way for the Blue Raiders. Samano went 2-3 with an RBI and a double, while Davis went 1-4 with two RBIs. Dariel Castillo and Pedro Vasquez each had two hits for the Patriots. Vazquez also had an RBI to go with the pair of hits. 


The Patriots broke the scoreless tie in the bottom half of the third inning, courtesy of an RBI single by Zamaurion Hatcher. The Blue Raiders tied the game at one on a Samano RBI double in the top of the fourth inning. Lindsey Wilson took the lead in the top of the fifth inning courtesy of a Davis two-run single. However, Cumberlands cut the lead in half on a Pedro Vaszquez RBI single in the bottom of the fifth, to make the score 3-2 LWU. Lambert no-hit the Patriots over the final 4.2 innings to earn the Blue Raiders their second top-10 victory this season. 

Games two and three are scheduled for a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at 12:00 p.m. CT at Terry Stigall Field.
