WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson Blue Raider baseball team dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader against No. 6-ranked Cumberlands (Ky.) Patriots at Terry Stigall 11-9 and 13-3.
The Blue Raiders move to 13-18, while the Patriots move to 25-6.
GAME ONE : Lindsey Wilson 9, No. 6 Cumberlands 11
Lindsey Wilson starting pitcher, Cassian Bartholomew, pitched 2.1 innings, allowing five runs on three hits, walking one, and striking out two. LWU reliever Sam Raper was given his first loss of the season, moving his record to 0-1. Cumberlands' starting pitcher, Stuart Tharle, went 3.1 innings, allowing six runs on six hits, walking one, and striking out four. Patriots reliever, JD Price, earned his third victory of the season, moving his record to 3-0 on the season. Jaden Morris earned his third save of the year, setting down the Blue Raiders in order in the last inning. Bryce Sidler went 3-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs in game one for Lindsey Wilson. Clay Shelton went 3-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs, including two home runs.
The Patriots got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI groundout by Ronald Almanzar. Later in the inning, Johnboy Rittenhouse made the game 2-0 on a solo home run. The Blue Raiders took the lead in the top of the second inning on a Sidler RBI single and a Drake Young two-run double. LWU added another run in the top of the third inning, when Blane Bradford homered, making the score 4-2. The Patriots went back on top in the bottom half of the third courtesy of two home runs, a solo blast by Shelton, and a two-run home run by Derick Andiarena. Lindsey Wilson scored five consecutive runs in the fourth and fifth innings, making taking a 9-5. However, Cumberlands scored six runs in the fifth and sixth innings, highlighted by a three-run home run by Pedro Vasquez to tie the game, and a go-ahead home run by Shelton. Lindsey Wilson was unable to come back to tie the game and was shutout the final two innings, to give the Patriots the 11-9 victory.
GAME TWO: Lindsey Wilson 3, No. 6 Cumberlands 13
Lindsey Wilson starting pitcher, Easton Talley (1-5), struggled during his 4.l innings on the mound. Talley gave up 10 runs on 12 hits, walking two, and striking out six. Nolan Wilson (5-0) went five strong innings for Cumberlands. Wilson allowed three runs on seven hits, walking two, striking out five, and earning his fifth win of the season. At the plate, Isaac Samano was the only Blue Raider with a multi-hit game. Shelton led the Patriots, going 2-3, including a home run, scoring two runs, and driving in five RBIs.
Cumberlands' bats stayed hot with a home run in both the first and second innings of game two. Almanzar hit a solo home run in the first, and Vasquez hit a two-run bomb in the second inning. Andiarena also had an RBI single in the second to make the score 4-0. Lindsey Wilson scored a run in the fourth inning on a Sidler sacrifice fly that scored
Keith Stewart, cutting the lead to 4-1. Cumberlands responded by scoring two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. LWU responded by scoring two runs in the fifth, which made the score 6-3. Cumberlands scored seven straight runs in the fifth and sixth, highlighted by a two-run home run in the sixth inning by Shelton. Lindsey Wilson failed to score in the seventh inning, resulting in a run-rule victory for the Patriots.
The Blue Raiders are next in action on Tuesday when they travel to New Albany, Indiana, to take on the Grenadiers of Indiana Southeast at 2 p.m. CT.
