Baseball Upsets No. 5 Johnson 6-4

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team upset the No. 5-ranked Royals of Johnson University (Tenn.) on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 6-4. 

This is the Blue Raiders' first top-five-ranked win since February 19, 2017. This victory moves Lindsey Wilson's record to 7-9 on the year, while Johnson moves to 17-2. Blue Raider starting pitcher Jack Ballou pitched three innings, while allowing three runs on three hits, walking seven, and striking out three. Reliever Jacob Jackson was credited with his first victory this season, moving his record to 1-0. Jackson was dominant in his four innings of work for the Blue Raiders, allowing only one run on two hits, while striking out two. Easton Talley picked up his first career save. Talley pitched two scoreless innings to close the game out, allowing one hit and striking out five. Johnson starting pitcher, Asher Abrahams, pitched three innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out one. Brandon Bell was given his first loss of the season, moving his record to 0-1. Bell allowed one run on two hits during his 1 ? innings of work. Bryce Sidler, Blane Bradford, and Isaac Samano each had two hits for the Blue Raiders. Luke Wilson and Izaak Fernandez both had two hits for the Lions. 

Johnson got on the board first courtesy of a Travis Hobbensiefken RBI ground out, making the score 1-0 in the bottom of the first. The Lions added another run in the bottom of the second, doubling the lead. Lindsey Wilson broke through in the top of the third inning when Samano drove in Drake Young with an RBI single. The Blue Raiders added an additional run in the third inning, making the score 2-2. Johnson scored in the bottom half of the fourth inning when Wilson drove in Grayson Shehan on an RBI single, giving the Royals the 3-2 lead. 

In the top of the fifth inning, Vincent Sizemore hit a two-run single, giving Lindsey Wilson the lead at 4-3. Bradford added another run in the top of the seventh inning on a solo home run, his second of the season. Johnson inched closer in the bottom of the seventh when Fernandez doubled home Braden Frank, cutting the deficit to 5-4. Jackson was able to work his way through the jam. An insurance run driven in by a Young RBI groundout gave Talley some cushion going into the eighth inning. Talley was dominant in his two-inning save, striking out five of the seven batters he faced. 

The Blue Raiders are at home at Egnew Park Saturday and Sunday for a three-game series against Lourdes(Ohio). Games one and two are on Saturday, starting at 1 p.m. CT, and game three is on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT.
