Baseball Falls in Doubleheader to Lourdes

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson (7-11) baseball team dropped the first two games of a three-game series against Lourdes (Ohio) (5-5) on Sunday afternoon at Egnew Park. 

Game One: Lindsey Wilson 7, Lourdes 8
Lindsey Wilson starting pitcher, Cassian Bartholomew, went four innings, allowing four runs on five hits, while walking four and striking out three. Lourdes' starting pitcher, Brenden Holland, pitched five innings, allowing five runs on 11 hits, while striking out five. Holland earned his second victory of the season, making him 2-0. Lindsey Wilson's Sam Raper was given the loss, making him 0-2 on the season. Bryce Sidler, Andres Duran, and Orion Hahm-Taklander all recorded three hits to lead the Blue Raiders, while Layne Vance led the Gray Wolves with three hits. 

Lourdes struck first in the top of the first inning with three runs. LWU scored two runs in the bottom half courtesy of a Hahm-Taklander RBI single and an Andino sacrifice fly. Lindsey Wilson added three more runs in the second inning. Sidler and Duran both had RBI singles, followed by a Hahm-Taklander RBI double, making the score 5-3. In the top of the third inning, Jase Kennedy cut the lead to 5-4 on a solo home run, then in the fifth inning, Alex Dupree connected for a solo home run to tie the game at five. In the following inning the Gray Wolves took the lead courtesy of a Kennedy RBI walk and a two-run single by Layne Vance, making the score 8-5. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Blue Raiders threatened against Ryan DeShelter, but ultimately fell a run short, despite a solo home run by Andres Duran and an RBI fielder's choice by Blane Bradford. DeShelter earned his second save of the season.

Game Two: Lindsey Wilson 3, Lourdes 4
Jack Ballou started for the Blue Raiders in game two. Ballou pitched four innings, allowing one run on one hit, walking five, and striking out six. Tuff Elson was given his first loss of the season despite giving up zero earned runs. JJ Foti earned his second win of the season (2-1) for the Gray Wolves. Foti pitched five innings, allowing one earned run on three hits, while walking four and striking out five. Caden Davis led Lindsey Wilson with two hits in game two, while Alex Dupree led Lourdes with two. 

Lindsey scored one run in the second and third via a bases-loaded double play by Drake Young and a sac fly by Duran. Lourdes scored four consecutive runs in the next four innings, making the score 4-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. Davis had an RBI single to cut the lead to one, but Zane Mullins was able to secure the victory.

Game three is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. CT on Monday at Egnew Park.
