LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team dropped Saturday's doubleheader against No. 2-ranked Georgia Gwinnett, 14-3, 16-2.
Lindsey Wilson falls to 17-26 on the season, while the Grizzlies move to 40-5 on the year. Lindsey Wilson is scheduled to host No. 5-ranked Johnson University (Tenn.) on Tuesday at Egnew Park starting at 2 p.m. CT.
GAME ONE: Lindsey Wilson 3 v. No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett 14
Lindsey Wilson starting pitcher, Brenden Bratcher, went 1.2 innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits, and walking one. Bratcher takes his third loss of the season, moving his record to 4-3.
Grizzlies starting pitcher Caiden Johnson earns his first victory of the season, moving to 1-0. Johnson went 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, walking two, and striking out nine.
Andres Duran was the lone bright spot for Lindsey Wilson, going 1-4 with two RBIs and a two-run home run. For Georgia Gwinnett, Peyton Watts and Trey Smith led the way. Watts went 3-3 with three runs scored and two doubles. Smith went 2-3 with three runs scored, four RBIs, a double, and a triple.
Lindsey Wilson got on the board in the top of the first inning with a Duran two-run home run to give the Blue Raiders the lead 2-0. The Grizzlies scored fourteen unanswered runs over the next five innings. Five runs in the first, two in the second, three in the fourth, and four in the fifth.
The first inning was highlighted by a Grant Pohlman two-run triple. Smith had an RBI triple in the second inning, and in the fifth, Coleman Willis hit a two-run home run. Lindsey Wilson managed to score a run in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Isaac Samano to make the final score 14-3.
GAME TWO: Lindsey Wilson 2 v. No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett 16
Cassian Bartholomew got the start, pitching one-third of an inning, allowing six runs (five earned) on three hits and walking two. Bartholomew now falls to 3-2 on the season. Georgia Gwinnett starting pitcher, Peyton Castellow (6-0), pitched five innings of one-run ball en route to his sixth victory of the season, while allowing two hits, walking three, and striking out six.
Lindsey Wilson in game two was held to two runs on four hits. For the Grizzlies, Kyle Phin and Vick Gann led the charge offensively. Phin went 3-4 with three runs scored, four RBIs, a walk, and a home run. Gann went 2-4 with a run scored, two RBIs, and a double.
GGC started the game on a 14-0 run through the first four innings, highlighted by home runs by Phin and Pohlman. Lindsey Wilson added a run on a Sidler RBI triple in the top of the fifth inning, making the score 14-1. Two more runs in the bottom of the fifth for the Grizzlies made the score 16-1. The Blue Raiders plated their second run of the game in the seventh inning, but ultimately fell 16-2.
