Baseball Splits Doubleheader against Bethel

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team split Friday's doubleheader with Bethel (Tenn.) at Egnew Park, losing game one 6-5 and winning game two 3-2. 

Game three is scheduled for Saturday at 12 p.m. CT at Egnew Park, with Senior Day festivities beginning before then. 

The Blue Raiders move to 18-27 on the season, while the Wildcats move to 11-27.

GAME ONE: Lindsey Wilson 5 v. Bethel 6 (8 Innings)

Lindsey Wilson starting pitcher, Jack Ballou, pitched 4.1 innings, allowing three runs on three hits, walking two, and striking out five. Reliever Brendan Bratcher received the loss, moving his record to 4-4.

Bethel starting pitcher, Walker Ward, went 3.0 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits, walking two, and striking out four. Reliever Peyton Martin earned his first victory of the season, moving to 1-3 overall. Martin worked two scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and striking out two. 

Lindsey Wilson was led by Orion Hahm-Taklander and Andres Duran. Hahm-Taklander went 3-4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI. Duran went 3-4 with a double. For the Wildcats, Juan Diego Ramos and Garrett Taylor led the way. Ramos went 2-4 with an RBI, while Taylor went 2-4 with two runs scored. 

Lindsey Wilson jumped out to a three-run lead after scoring a run in the second, third, and fourth innings. Hahm-Taklander advanced home during a rundown of Bryce Sidler between first and second base, Drake Young drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Young scored on a Wildcat error. 

Bethel scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead. Evan Cardwell drove in two with a two-run double, followed by a Zayden McCaslin RBI single, an RBI groundout from Adriel Vega, and an RBI single from Ramos. 

Lindsey Wilson tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Hahm-Taklander sacrifice fly and a Sidler RBI single. However, at the start of extra innings, Lindsey Wilson committed two errors on the same play to allow the go-ahead run to score. The Blue Raiders were unable to plate a run in the bottom of the eighth to give the Wildcats a 6-5 victory.


GAME TWO: Lindsey Wilson 3 v. Bethel 2
Lindsey Wilson starting pitcher, Sam Raper, went 3.0 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, walking two, and striking out four. Reliever, Gannon Herring, earned his second victory of the season, moving his record to 2-1 overall. Herring went 2.0 innings, allowing only one baserunner and striking out two. Easton Talley earned his third save of the season for the Blue Raiders. Talley went 2.0 innings, allowing only two hits and striking out one to secure the victory. 

Bethel starting pitcher Zachary Zimmer lasted 3.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, walking one, and striking out three. Reliever, Christian Wilkes (0-3) received his third loss of the season. Wilkes went two innings, allowing one run (zero earned) on one hit, walking two, and striking out three. 

Lindsey Wilson was led by Sidler in game two. Sidler went 2-2 with a run scored, two RBIs, and a mammoth home run. For the Wildcats, Ramos and Vega led the way. Ramos went 2-3 with a run scored and a double, while Vega went 1-3 with a solo home run to left center field. 

Lindsey Wilson jumped ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning courtesy of Sidler's solo home run. The Wildcats tied the game at 1-1 at the top of the second via a Tyler Webb bases-loaded RBI walk. Bethel took the lead 2-1 in the top of the third on a Vega solo home run. Lindsey Wilson rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the third via a Sidler RBI single. In the bottom of the fifth, LWU took the lead for good at 3-2 on Duran's go-ahead single. The Wildcats were unable to score off Talley in the final two innings, securing the Blue Raiders' 3-2 victory. 


Game three is scheduled for Saturday at 12 p.m. CT at Egnew Park. Senior Day festivities will take place before the first pitch.
