BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The fourth-seeded Lindsey Wilson baseball team fell 5-3 to No. 3 seed Cumberland (Tenn.) in the first round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Wednesday at Bowling Green Ballpark.
The Blue Raiders will now face No. 6 seed Bethel (Tenn.) on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. CT. Bethel defeated top-seeded Cumberlands 4-1 in 10 innings earlier today.
Andres Duran led the way for the Blue Raiders, going 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Caden Davis and
Isaac Samano also drove in a run for Lindsey Wilson.
Jack Ballou got the start going six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits with six strikeouts.
Lindsey Wilson struck first in the top of the first.
Orion Hahm-Taklender led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a Sidler single. Duran reached on an error on a sacrifice bunt to load the bases. Following a strikeout, Davis drove in Hahm-Taklender to make it 1-0. Samano drove in Duran to increase the Blue Raider lead to 2-0.
The Blue Raiders increased their lead to 3-0 on a Duran RBI double in the top of the second. Cumberland began the bottom of the fourth with three straight singles to load the bases. Gabriel Reyes hit a sacrifice fly, cutting the Blue Raider lead to 3-1. Caleb Royer made it 3-2 with an RBI groundout. Cohl Proctor tied the game 3-3 with an RBI single to left. Gaines Haussin gave Cumberland a 5-3 lead with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth.
Lindsey Wilson was then retired in order in the sixth and seventh. Duran led off the top of the eighth with a single.
Keith Stewart then drew a walk, before Davis recorded a sacrifice bunt to put a pair of runners in scoring position. Cumberland ended the Blue Raider threat, retiring the next two batters.
Diego Andino drew a walk to begin the ninth, before Kyle Nyblod got the next three batters out to secure the save.
The Blue Raiders return to action on Thursday taking on Bethel (Tenn.) at 2:30 p.m. CT at Bowling Green Ballpark.
