Baseball Dominates Union at Home 16-3

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson Blue Raider baseball team ended its six-game losing streak with a 16-3 victory over Union Commonwealth (Ky.) Tuesday afternoon at Egnew Park.

The Blue Raiders earn their 14th victory of the season, moving to 14-22, while the Bulldogs fall to 6-26.

Lindsey Wilson starting pitcher, Sam Raper (1-3), earned his first win of the season. Raper pitched 4.0 innings, allowing one run on two hits, walking four, and striking out seven. Gannon Herring pitched 2.0 innings, allowing one run on two hits, walking one, and striking out one. Union Commonwealth starting pitcher, Gavin Davis (0-1), pitched 1.0 inning, allowing three runs on one hit, walking two, and striking out two.

Lindsey Wilson, at the plate, was led by Keith Stewart and Bryce Sidler. Stewart went 3-4 with two runs scored, a two-run home run, a double, and four RBIs. Sidler went 3-3 with two runs scored, a double, a triple, and four RBIs. Roberto Gallardo went 1-2 with an RBI and a double for Union.

The Blue Raiders' offense scored its most runs of the season with 16. Lindsey Wilson jumped in front with three runs in the bottom of the first inning courtesy of a Sidler RBI sacrifice fly, followed by a Stewart two-run home run to right field. Union Commonwealth scored on a bases-loaded hit by pitch to make the score 3-1.

 The Blue Raiders added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning when Zane Gist hit a two-run triple. Lindsey Wilson added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Sidler RBI double, followed by a Stewart two-run single. LWU added five more runs in their half of the fifth inning, making the score 13-1. Isaac Samano had an RBI bunt single, Diego Andino drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, Sidler drove in two more with a triple, and Andres Duran's sac fly drove in Sidler. 

The Bulldogs added a run on Gallardo's RBI double, making the score 13-2. Three more runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning made the score 16-2. The Bulldogs were unable to score five runs to extend the game, giving Lindsey Wilson the run-rule victory.

Lindsey Wilson travels to Georgetown (Ky.) this weekend for a three-game Mid-South Conference clash. Game one is scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. CT, with games two and three scheduled for a doubleheader Saturday starting at 11 a.m. CT.
