SILVIS, Ill. -- The Lindsey Wilson men's golf team fired a 290 today in the first round of the 74th Annual NAIA Men's Golf National Championship at TPC Deere Run.
The Blue Raiders sit nine shots off the team lead and in third place after 18 holes of the 72-hole tournament. Science and Arts (Okla.) leads with an opening round 281, while Hastings (Neb.) is in second place with a team-total 288. The Blue Raiders are tied with Oklahoma City for third.
Polakrit Pawichai paced the Blue Raiders with a 1-over par 71 over the 6,703-yard, par 70 layout -- home of the PGA's John Deere Classic. Pawichai carded an opening round-best 15 pars during the round. He fired a 1-under par 33 on his second nine -- Deere Run's front side.
Pawichai is tied for 13th in the 156-man field.
Callum Waugh and Stanley White are tied for 25th after posting 2-over par 72s today.
Waugh and White each recorded three birdies during the round. Waugh closed with a strong second nine with an even-par 34. White shot one over on each side for his 72.
Toby White rounds out the scoring for the Blue Raiders in the opening round with a 5-over par 75. Philip Kittoff Jr. shot a 6-over par 76.
Four players are tied atop the individual leaderboard at 2-under par 68.
Lindsey Wilson starts its second round at 12:20 p.m. CT on Wednesday off the No. 1 tee.
