MOBILE, Ala. – The second-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team fell to top-seeded Keiser (Fla.) 4-1 in the NAIA National Championship match on Saturday at the Mobile Tennis Center.
Violet Apisah and Patricia Apisah (No. 1 doubles in NAIA) defeated
Heyka Rodriguez and
Javiera Verdugo (No. 3) 6-0 in the top-seeded doubles match.
Mariangeles Mateu and
Blanca Trillo Pita da Veiga (No. 38) tied doubles with a 6-4 victory over Alexandra Melnikova and Lena Couto (No. 26) at No. 3.
Martina Cortal and
Mayra Gisone clinched the doubles point for the Blue Raiders. The duo – ranked No. 6 – defeated Ella Sahnis and Aline Aveiro 7-5 at No. 2 to give Lindsey Wilson a 1-0 advantage.
Patrica Apsiah (No. 68) tied the match with a 6-0. 6-1 victory over Mateu (No. 42) in the third-seeded singles match. Sahnis gave the Seahawks a 2-1 advantage with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Verdugo (No. 12) at No. 4. Violet Apisah (No. 1) pushed the Keiser lead to 3-1 with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Gisone (No. 3) in the top-seeded singles match. The Seahawks clinched the championship with a 6-3, 6-1 win from Melnikova (No. 15) over Cortal (No. 51) at No. 2.
The Blue Raiders close out their season with a 19-2 record, capturing the Mid-South Conference regular season and tournament titles and an appearance in the National Championship match.
