Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Opening Weekend Ends for (RV) Volleyball

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - On day two of the Tiger Kickoff Invitational, the (RV) Lindsey Wilson volleyball team dropped back-to-back matches, falling to Carroll (Mont.) in a five-set battle before suffering a loss to Marian (Ind.).

Match One: (RV) Lindsey Wilson 2, Carroll (Mont.) 3

The Blue Raiders showed strong resilience throughout the match. In the first frame, Carroll led by as many as 13 points before Lindsey Wilson trimmed the deficit to six late at 24-18. Luisina Sandrone Tais and Brooke Robinson each contributed three kills in the set, but the Fighting Saints held on for the 25-18 win.

Carroll opened the second set with the first four points and built a 14-9 advantage. A combo block by Duda Becho and Robinson sparked a four-point swing for the Blue Raiders, cutting the deficit to 14-13. From there, the momentum shifted back and forth as the teams battled to a 23-23 tie. A Gabi Zuquelo kill followed by a Robinson service ace secured the set for Lindsey Wilson, evening the match at 1-1.

Set three featured six lead changes in another tightly contested battle. With the score tied at 23-23 for the second consecutive set, Carroll found the final edge and took the frame 25-23, giving the Fighting Saints a 2-1 advantage heading into the fourth set.

Lindsey Wilson rattled the Carroll defense with a .452 clip in set four. Tied at 10-10, Parker Sutherland, Zuquelo, and Robinson connected on consecutive kills, sparking an 8-4 rally to give the Blue Raiders separation. The Saints stuck around down the stretch. However, Lindsey Wilson notched five of the last six points of the set to force a tiebreaker.

Carroll was quick to establish its footing in the fifth frame, jumping out to a 10-2 lead that the Blue Raiders could not overcome. Lindsey Wilson battled back to within six at 10-6, but the Fighting Saints regained control and went on to secure the deciding set 15-9 and the match 3-2.

Robinson struck for a team-high 13 kills. Sandrone Tais added 11 kills, Addison Janes dished out 18 assists, and Momo Hampton stacked up 20 digs.

Match Two: (RV) Lindsey Wilson 0, Marian (Ind.) 3

Lindsey Wilson came out strong in the first set, staying close with the Knights and taking an 18-17 lead late. Sandrone Tais had four kills during the initial push. Marian, however, closed the set on an 8-1 run to take it 25-19.

The Knights jumped ahead early in the middle set, forcing a Blue Raider timeout up 12-4. Lindsey Wilson continued to fight with back-to-back Zuquelo kills and a Marian hitting error to slice the Knights' lead to 14-10, but Marian pulled away to win 25-15.

The Blue Raiders lost ground early in the third set as the Knights went ahead by nine points. Despite a 6-0 push by Lindsey Wilson, Marian finished the set 25-17 to clinch the match.

Sandrone Tais hit for 10 kills to pace the Blue Raider offense.
