MARION, Ind. - The No. 10-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team rallied in the second half to defeat No. 16-ranked Indiana Wesleyan 2-1 on Saturday, September 12, in Marion, Indiana.
The Wildcats (4-1-2) outshot the Blue Raiders (3-2) 25-10, but the Blue Raiders evened out the shots taken in second half 7-7. Yannick Maurer and Juliano Manfro scored their first goals of the season. Denilson Macon recorded an assist, his second of the season. Zahir Garcia had nine saves and held Indiana Wesleyan scoreless in the second half.
In the first half, Indiana Wesleyan kept Garcia and the Blue Raider defensive line on its heel, putting up 18 shots. Garcia was able to save five shots, but in the 42nd minute Indiana Wesleyan rebounded a Garcia save and Seth Kallum passed the ball to Mario Chaves who was able to put the ball in the back of the net, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead heading to the half.
Lindsey Wilson broke through in the second half. In the 60th minute, Manfro passed it short to Macon, who crossed it in and found Maurer, who was able to head the ball in to tie the game 1-1. In the 67th minute, Manfro intercepted a pass from a Wildcat player and sent a ball to Macon, who ran the ball into the goal, before finding a trailing Manfro, who scored the game-deciding goal.
Indiana Wesleyan had a chance to tie the game back up in the 71st minute with a penalty kick, but Garcia was able to stop Jose Garcia's attempt to keep the Blue Raiders ahead 2-1.
The Blue Raiders return home on Monday, September 12, to face No. 6-ranked West Virginia Tech at 5 p.m. CT on Ray Wells Field at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
