COLUMBIA, Ky. — The No. 12 Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team visits West Virginia Tech for a noon CT match Saturday at YMCA Paul Cline Memorial Sports Complex.
The Blue Raiders (4-1-1) are coming off a road trip to Bethel (Tenn.), where they claimed a 2-1 Mid-South Conference victory. After surrendering an early goal to the Wildcats and falling behind 1-0, the Lindsey Wilson stepped on the gas after halftime, getting goals from Julia Marcolongo and a game-winner from Eva Cova in the 87th minute. The Blue Raiders outshot Bethel 30-2 in the match and did not allow a Wildcats shot in the second half.
Ashiat Naluggwa leads the Blue Raiders in goals this season with four, while Ona Monserrat Baca and Cova pace the team with two assists apiece. Demi Serman has 16 saves in goal for Lindsey Wilson.
The Golden Bears' (4-3-1) last match was a 1-1 draw to Cumberland (Tenn.). West Virginia Tech is coached by Kate Carr, who is in her eighth season with the program. The Golden Bears are led on offense by Julia Silva and Shiloh Goodwin, a duo that has combined for eight goals this season. West Virginia Tech is led in goal by Irene Saldaña and her 27 saves.
Series history favors the Blue Raiders 9-0-0 all-time. The most recent meeting between the two programs was a 2011 macthup that resulted in a 9-0 Lindsey Wilson victory.
Next up for the Blue Raiders is a visit to Tennessee Southern for a match that kicks off at 4 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
