COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson volleyball team earned a 3-0 victory over Freed-Hardeman Friday night at Biggers Sports Center, taking the three sets 25-20, 25-20 and 25-15.
The Blue Raiders jumped out to a 6-2 advantage in the opening set behind three consecutive service aces from
Luisina Sandrone Tais. Freed-Hardeman answered with a 7-2 run to take a 9-8 lead before extending its advantage to 16-13. Lindsey Wilson responded with a 12-4 run to close the set, taking the opening frame 25-20. Sandrone Tais finished the set with three aces, while the Blue Raiders also received kills from
Tully Bew and
Natalie Wandrie during the closing stretch.
Freed-Hardeman took control early in the second set, opening with a 6-1 lead and later extending the margin to 15-9. Lindsey Wilson responded with a 10-2 run to erase the deficit and take a 19-17 lead. The Blue Raiders continued to close the set strongly, finishing with a 25-20 victory. Lindsey Wilson outhit Freed-Hardeman .355-.162 in the second set, with
Parker Sutherland, Wandrie and Sandrone Tais contributing kills during the late run.
Lindsey Wilson controlled the third set from the start, building a 12-2 advantage before maintaining its lead through the remainder of the match. The Blue Raiders recorded five blocks in the frame and held Freed-Hardeman to 15 points, closing out the match with a 25-15 victory.
Sandrone Tais and Wandrie led the Blue Raiders offensively with seven and eight kills, respectively. Wandrie was particularly efficient, recording eight kills on nine attacks for an .889 hitting percentage. Bew also finished with eight kills, while Sutherland added five kills and four block assists.
Gabi Zuquelo recorded two kills and five block assists.
Addison Janes recorded 13 assists, one kill and one service ace, while
Rachel Kilchenmann added eight assists.
Momo Hampton led the Blue Raiders defensively with 16 digs and also recorded two service aces. As a team, Lindsey Wilson finished with 32 kills, nine service aces, 32 digs and 12 block assists while hitting .259.
The Lindsey Wilson junior varsity team also competed Friday, falling 2-1.
Both Blue Raiders Junior Varsity and Varsity team return to the court tomorrow at 1p.m and 3p.m. consecutive at Biggers Sports Center. Live coverage of both matches will be available through the Lindsey Wilson Sports Network.
