SAN MARCOS, Calif. -- Lindsey Wilson freshman
Krista Burton capped off a perfect season to win the 2007 NAIA individual national golf title on Friday.
Burton -- who won all seven tournaments in which she competed this season -- led the Blue Raiders to a runner-up finish in the 23-team NAIA National Tournament, played at Lake San Marcos Country Club.
Oklahoma City University won the title, their third consecutive.
Burton is the first LWC golfer to win a national title, and the Blue Raiders' overall finish is the best in program history.
The Blue Raiders finished 11th last year and 14th in 2005, their only two previous national tournament appearances.
Burton, a Jamestown, Ky., native, won the title with a four-round total of 295 (74-74-73-74). Her finish led a furious charge over the final three rounds.
Entering Friday's final round, the Blue Raiders trailed two-time defending national champion Oklahoma City by 12 strokes.
LWC cut the OCU lead to 10 after Friday's first nine holes. But the Blue Raiders could pull no closer, and OCU raced to an 18-stroke win over the final nine holes.
Lindsey Wilson ended with a four-round total of 1,255 (325-307-311-312); Oklahoma City finished with a 1,237 total (314-310-307-306).
Burton edged out Bethel (Ind.) College's Shanna Page by four strokes. Page finished second with a four-round total of 299 (72-75-75-77).
