LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's golf team captured the 2009 Mid-South Conference Women's Golf Championships presented by the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau today at Nevel Meade Golf Course.
Lindsey Wilson finished with a team-total of 633 (311-322), 45 strokes clear of second place Campbellsville University (352-326). Georgetown College (680) and University of the Cumberlands (704) finished third and fourth respectively.
Lindsey Wilson junior Krista Burton earned medalist honors following her second straight three over par 75. Burton finished with a two-day total of 150, four shots ahead of junior teammate Jessica Smith's 154. Cumberlands' Kayla Peace tied for the low round of the day with a 75. Peace finished third with a 158.
Lindsey Wilson sophomore Chelsey Key finished fourth with a total of 162 (79-83) and junior Cheslee Stone ended in eighth with a 167 (81-86). Senior Aline Decker rounds out the team with a 174 (86-88). Freshman Paola Gonzalez finished tied for fifth with a 164 (82-82) playing as an individual.
The Blue Raiders' 45-shot win completed the season-long competition for the Mid-South Conference's automatic bid into the NAIA National Championships in May. Lindsey Wilson won the six-round competition over three tournaments with a final total of 1,933. Georgetown finished second with a score of 2,061 and Campbellsville finished third with 2,094.
Burton earned MSC Golfer of the Year for her performance over the three conference tournaments. Joining Burton on the all-conference team is Key, Peace and Georgetown's Natalie Brown, Jessica Collins and Tiffany Samborsky.
Following the tournament, Burton, Decker and junior Tracy McClain were honored as Academic All Mid-South Conference for being of sophomore standing or above and maintaining at least a 3.25 GPA on a 4.0 scale. The trio was three of nine to earn the award.
Lindsey Wilson coach Chris Wells and Campbellsville coach Lindsay Hines were selected co-coaches of the year as voted on by their peers. 
The Blue Raiders return to action May 12-15 at the NAIA National Championships at Meadowbrook Municipal Golf Course in Rapid City, S.D.
