NITRO, W.Va. -- During its winning streak, the Lindsey Wilson College football team has won in come-from-behind fashion, with a dominate defensive performance and with an aerial assault.

Today, the Blue Raiders added a fourth winning method; defeating host West Virginia University Tech 10-6 in a mud-filled day at Underwood Field at Nitro High School.

Lindsey Wilson sophomore kicker Mark Corbett's opening kickoff proved to be a small sample of the troubles that the Blue Raiders and Golden Bears would encounter today. Corbett's left foot slipped in the rain-soaked turf just prior to contact of the opening kickoff and the ball squirted just 38 yards to start the game.

Underwood Field -- thanks to heavy rains blanketing the area over the last two days -- was under water at kickoff and quickly deteriorated turning into a mud pit by the end of the first quarter.

Before the field turned completely to soup, both teams took advantage of scoring opportunities with the game's only touchdowns in the opening quarter.

Lindsey Wilson (6-2, 2-1 Mid-South Conference East Division) scored first -- something it has done every game this season -- as the freshmen tandem of quarterback Branden Cresap and receiver Chaz Barnes hooked up on a 23-yard score with 4:11 left in the quarter.

The touchdown catch -- Barnes' team-leading sixth of the season -- capped a nine-play, 69-yard drive to give the Blue Raiders a 7-0 lead.

West Virginia Tech (0-8) answered the Blue Raider score with its first points of the season in the opening quarter. The Golden Bears had been outscored 48-0 in the first quarter before quarterback Mitch Brumfield's one-yard keeper for a score. Brumfield finished 7-of-15 throwing for 24 yards and three interceptions.

Tech marched six plays and 62 yards for the touchdown to cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to 7-6. Bo Brown's 47-yard romp proved to be the play of the drive setting up the score. The run was the longest play of the day for the Golden Bears who finished with just 192 yards of total offense.

Following the touchdown, Tech's Ricard Arriaga slipped and pushed the extra point wide to keep the game a 7-6.

Scoring became scarce in the second quarter as the Blue Raiders managed the only points of the quarter with a Cobett field goal as time expired in the half. Corbett completed the eight-play, 25-yard drive with a 23-yard field goal to give the Blue Raiders the 10-6 lead heading into the locker room.

Neither team could overcome the field conditions in the second half as each defense pitched shutouts after the break.

Lindsey Wilson -- who entered the game second in the Mid-South Conference averaging 326 yards through the air -- was limited to just 105 passing yards today. Cresap finished 13-of-23 with a touchdown and no interceptions.

While the aerial assault was somewhat grounded today, the Blue Raider run game and defense proved to be the difference.

Lindsey Wilson -- who wins its sixth straight road game dating back to last season -- finished with 180 rushing yards on a program-record 52 rushing attempts. Freshman Tyrome Lott ended the game with a team-best 67 yards on 13 carries.

In addition to holding Tech to 192 yards of offense, the Blue Raider defense finished the game with four takeaways, including three interceptions and allowed just one first down in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Sam Wilson led the Blue Raiders with seven tackles while freshmen Alex Abner, Josh Johnson and Eric Shaw all recorded picks on the day.

The win sets up next week's game against division-leading and No. 4-ranked Georgetown (Ky.) College and second-place Lindsey Wilson. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, November 5 at Toyota Stadium.
