Aduny Propels No. 2 Men's Soccer Past No. 10 Southern Poly 3-2 in OT

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. -- Moses Aduny emerged out of a cluster of players fighting for the ball inside the box and finished an overtime strike from just 10-feet out in the 98th minute to lift No. 2 seed Lindsey Wilson College over No. 10 seed Southern Polytechnic State (Ga.) University 3-2 in the quarterfinals of the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship on Wednesday at the Orange Beach Sportsplex.

Leading up to the extra time, Lebogang Moloto shook a defender inside the box in the 36th minute and finished a goal into the right side of the net and added another score early in the second half.

Moloto's 47th-minute strike came from just outside the box, using another mix of fancy footwork to work around the Southern Poly defense after being set up for the score on a pass by senior Anyelo Avila.

Moloto also played a role in Aduny's game winner as he was credited with an assist after making the initial touch near the goal.

The Hornets fired seven shots on goal and 13 shots overall, but couldn't manage to get one past Blue Raider freshman goalkeeper Yuta Nomura until the 63rd minute when Emeka Maduka ended Southern Poly's stagnant offensive display.

Maduka's goal was a team effort as both Sean Grisham and Andre Santos picked up an assist after playing touch passes in his direction to set up space to push the ball past Nomura.

That goal brought life to the Southern Poly attack as 15 minutes later James Harris scored off a cross from Grisham to even the score.

Lindsey Wilson nearly didn't make it to overtime as Maduka got free for a shot in the 88th minute inside the box that rolled barely wide as Nomura stretched out to interfere with its path.

Nomura finished with five saves in the game with the two goals allowed, while Southern Poly keeper Dennis Kramer collected a pair of saves with the two goals allowed before being injured with about 20 minutes to play.

Jason Andrew took over in goal for the Hornets and made three late saves before Aduny got the winning goal past him in extra time.

Lindsey Wilson improves to 8-1-0 all-time in the national-championship quarterfinals and is an NAIA record 43-10-4 overall.

The battle against the Hornets was the Blue Raiders' first overtime game in the NAIA championship since beating Southern Nazarene University 2-1 in 2005.

The win evened the all-time series record with the Hornets at 1-1-0 as the Blue Raiders avenged their 2-1 loss to Southern Poly in the opening round of the 2010 national championship at Walter S. Reuling Stadium in Columbia.

The score in Wednesday's game could have been much different in regulation as Lindsey Wilson had two different shots ricochet off the posts and Southern Poly missed just wide on one shot and forced Nomura to make a leaping punch save on another in the first half to keep the Blue Raiders in front.

Lindsey Wilson advances to the national semifinals at 6 p.m. CT on Friday, Dec. 2 at the Orange Beach Sportsplex against either No. 3 seed Baker (Kan.) University or sixth seeded Grand View (Iowa) University who play later tonight at 5 p.m.

The Blue Raiders are making their first trip to the semifinals since the 2009 season when they went on to win their eighth NAIA national title.
