Box Score

McKENZIE, Tenn. -- No. 9-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer made it 2-for-2 at Wildcat Stadium this season as the Blue Raiders defeated host Bethel (Tenn.) 3-1 on Sunday.

On Thursday, Lindsey Wilson (6-1) won on its first trip to west Tennessee with a 2-0 win over Florida Memorial in a neutral-site match. Today, Franco Roman scored a goal and assisted on another to lead the Blue Raiders to their fourth straight win. No. 22-ranked Bethel falls to 1-4 this season with the loss.

Roman opened the scoring in the first half with a header deep inside the penalty area in the 31st minute. Moustapha Fofana aided on the goal by dribbling down the right flank near the end line. He sent a cross into the box and Roman out-leapt a Bethel defender and headed the ball into the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season.

The match remained a one-goal difference until the final minute of the half when Tauan Salgado and Roman connected for a 2-0 lead.

Roman played the ball between two Bethel defenders, hitting Salgado in stride. He sent a blast past Bethel goalkeeper Dakota King from nearly 15 yards out for his second strike of the year.

The second half was uneventful, with few scoring chances until late in the half.

In the 88th minute following a Bethel foul, Yusuf Ackers sent a free kick deep into the penalty box. King mishandled the kick and Billal Qsiyer ran onto the ball pushing it just over the goal line for the Blue Raiders' third goal of the game. The goal is Qsiyer's second of the season.

Bethel ended Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper Yuta Nomura's shutout hopes in the final minute.

Following a save, the referee cited Nomura with stalling, giving the Wildcats a free kick from the top of the penalty area. Bethel's David Orr quickly played the ball to Edson Ortiz Abreu, catching the Blue Raiders out of position and Abreu scored into an empty net for the first Wildcat goal of the game.

The goal ended Nomura's scoreless streak at 325 minutes and kept him one shutout away from the program's record. Nomura is currently tied with Drew Burwash and Dean Wortz with 26 all-time shutouts.

Nomura finished with seven saves while King recorded six stops.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Sept. 16, as the Blue Raiders host Georgetown (Ky.) at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
