No. 20 Men's Basketball rolls past Ohio State-Mansfield 103-64

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 20-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team picked up a 103-64 victory over Ohio State-Mansfield on Saturday at Biggers Sports Center.

Dmitry Utolin led the Blue Raiders (4-0) with a season-high 22 points. Charles Sutton missed out on a second-straight double-double after his 20 points and nine rebounds. Nic Brown recorded his first double-double as a Blue Raider to the tune of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Bryan Wallace also went into double figures with 16 points.

Lindsey Wilson came out hot out of the gate with a 15-4 run capped off by a Dylan Gaskin basket.

But the Mavericks (0-3) hung around and after trailing 23-16, scored the next five points to cut the Blue Raider lead down to just two at 23-21 with 9:02 to play in the opening half. Lindsey Wilson stepped up the intensity from there scoring 14-consecutive points to build a 37-21 lead, using a stingy defensive effort to force three-straight Maverick turnovers during the run.

Following an Ohio State-Mansfield basket, the Blue Raiders rolled off a stretch of 10-straight points capped off by another Gaskin bucket to make it 47-23 with 1:32 to play in the opening half, the largest lead for LWC in the opening 20 minutes.

The Mavericks outscored the Blue Raiders 8-2 for the remainder of the half to trim the lead down to 49-31 at the break.

Lindsey Wilson shot 56.4 percent from the field in the opening half but struggled mightily from beyond the arc, hitting just 2-of-15 attempts. Ohio State-Mansfield shot 35.5 percent from the floor, but poured in 21 of their 31 first-half points from beyond the arc shooting at a 43.8 percentage.

The Blue Raiders pounded the ball inside, scoring 38 of their points in the paint, while adding 16 points off Maverick turnovers.

It was a slow start to the second half for Lindsey Wilson as the Blue Raiders committed three-straight turnovers on their first three possessions of the second half.

Ohio State-Mansfield took advantage of the lackluster start and brought the game with 13 points at 51-38 with 17:16 to play, but Lindsey Wilson used a 12-4 run over the next three minutes to push the lead to 63-42 after a Marshall Griffith jumper.

Lindsey Wilson added another run with a 12-0 advantage to increase the lead to 81-49 with 7:39 to go after a Brandon Berry basket, eventually pulling away for the 103-64 win.

The Blue Raiders finished shooting 58.7 percent from the field, but just 18.2 percent from three-point range. Ohio State-Mansfield shot 37.5 percent. Tyson Beebe led the Mavericks with 16 points.

Lindsey Wilson is back in action on Tuesday when the Blue Raiders host Kentucky State at 7 p.m. CT.
